Z - Yes, it was Treble Clef.
I took lessons from Steve can't remember his last name there. Still have my first music book by Joe Fava. First song learned was Solo Flight during the week following February 3, 1965: 4/4, G E Ee, G E Ee, F G E F, Gggg...

Thanks Mkap, I've been thinking about this for months and then this morning it came to me out of the blue. I don't have any of the music but I still have this rickety old music stand in it's case from those days.

It must have become Amato's in the late 60's or so. I took lessons in about '70 when it was Amato's. The piano teacher I had was a young woman probably in her early 20's. Poor thing tried to teach me. I took lessons at three separate times in my life from three different teachers, and would probably still need a beginners book to be able to play anything

This would have been around 66'-67 that I took lessons there. The names Mkap mentioned sound familiar. The guy I had was kind of heavy set.

Any of you ever go to Mrs. Pecar for lessons? "Every good boy does fine".

Her house was close to Merchandise Mart, not too far from the Civic Center.

Z - Stocky, heavy set, nice guy. Very patient with me, as I know I was not near being his typical prodigy. I WANTED TO PLAY ROCK AND ROLL MAN! It just took too long to get there.
Got my Fender Mustang and Deluxe Amp from Gus Zoppi's. Still have both in perfect working condition.

I think my sister may have taken lessons from Mrs. Pecar. The name rings a bell.
My first piano teacher was way over on 7 Mile and Goddard from some old lady with bad breath. I shared a 1/2 hour with my neighbor. He was better at playing, so I spent a lot of my 15 minutes reading Highlights magazine.

That's the part I remember best, too, 7. There were other puzzles, but the hidden pics were the best.
They still make that magazine. I'm going to get it for the grandson's birthday in April

I was scared of her. I think I only lasted through one season of lessons from her. I remember a spring recital and that was that. I don't think she liked little girls. You guys were more her style.

I'm sorry about your Dad. He was good people. Is your mom living on her own?
I'm up in Almont. Dad passed away back in '73, Mom's in a nursing home in Saginaw near Fran. Dinky is in Macomb Twp, Jim's out near Grand Rapids and Ruth is in Ohio/Florida.
I have two daughters 32 and 31 as well as 3 grandkids. My older daughter Kate is in Clawson with her husband and two boys, and my younger, Sarah, is in Colorado with her husband, his daughter and their own little girl who's 1.

I think it was you and I who shared a lesson and our parents took turns driving us over to Mrs. Runner's house. I thought we were younger, but if you were 10 or 11, I was about 11 or 12. I guess sixth grade seems about right.

my mother is living on here own. she still cuts her own grass and uses an electric snowblower.

I think you are correct about sharing rides to Runners house. I am going to ask my Mother when i get home from work,to see if she remembers.

That's great that your mom is still taking care of herself. Tell her and Dan and Darlene I said Hi.
If I remember correctly, your mom should be in her mid to late 70's now?? She was several years younger than my mom. She's 88 now, and Dad would be 95 if he was still here.

Ddavid: Welcome to the forum. What a great discovery that your "lesson mate" is right here on the SJ forum. Did you attend SJ? if so what year?

Still have the snare/tomtom drum used for practice while playing in the SJ band. (The top skin broke due to cold storage conditions...my bad). But if I wanted to I guess I could replace it and drive everyone nuts just like I did when practicing the long rolls, flams, and paradiddles back on Eastwood. Mr Henderson and Mr. Egan would have been proud.
