So Hoover, you're calling me a liar about the piano? That does it, I'm not coming to the reunion. Well, I'll be there but I'll be in a really bad mood. Sloppy, ignorant drunk, just like the old days. I've got a feeling I should try to stay on the good side of Margie's husband though.

Alright, that does it. Here's a recent photo someone sent me of Hoover at a diner in Belle Glade.

Hoover, you lived in a room that had 7 doors? That had to be reasonably confusing, even for you. Where did they go?

I saw that too. I think it was just some internet come on type of thing.

Hoover, where was the fuse room? Could you get there from the dumbwaiter?

There's usually about 3 pages of Gar Wood stuff for sale on ebay. Mostly old ads and stuff. Some boat parts. They have these T-Shirts. I'd go for one of Markley's though.

The big time real deal fuse room was in the workshop/vault room down by the boathouse. Those old time hi-amp cartridge fuses were hard to come by so when one would blow, I would put a length of heavy guage solid copper wire in as a replacement. Let a zillion amps into the house; those little amperes felt right at home in "The Garwood".

I definitely spent some time on my back out on the lawn. I remember laying out there one night during a party, staring up at the stars through the smog. Suddenly there was one of those police choppers hovering overhead. They turned on their floodlight and it was just like daylight. It took me a while to figure out what was going on. It just hovered there and then a few squads drove up the driveway. A couple cops went inside the house and told the band to turn it down, and then left.

Nice work, Candyman. Actually, I've seen "The Lady" from that angle a couple times. I tripped over somebody laying out there stargazing.

Ran across this. I'll bet some of his parties at the mansion were unique.

From an English rival Wood acquired an enduring nickname: “the Gray Fox.” Wood became in 1931 the first speedboater to exceed 100 miles per hour. Wood also had a knack for publicity, winning one race dressed in a tuxedo. In his day, his fame as a competitor rivaled Ty Cobb’s.
