I figured MonCon wouldn't want Leno in Detroit anyway because he doesn't look anything like her. What a disgrace |

Instead of being gracious and accepting the fact that a national figure like Jay Leno is doing something FOR FREE, I don't understand the criticism of this. Would it we even be complaining if Leno had a free show in Columbus? Nashville? or any other city? This just screams of sour grapes on Conyers part because it's being held at Auburn Hills. Be thankful ANYone is doing something for this region. |

I'm sure the Clownsil will find a way to paint this as a racist move, considering that he passed up that modern "jewel" known as Cobo Arena |

this city council needs to quit talking out of both sides of its collective mouth - What an embarrassment. It's like common sense is totally lost on them. |

Once again, my council doesn't fail to disappoint. I would like to know who handles the press for this council. I mean there are so many "shot in the foot" moments I can't count them anymore. If anyone knows Council President Conyers or Councilwoman Reeves could you please tell them it is too late. The fact that you would leak to the press that you are attempting to change the venue of Leno's show was stupid because it makes the city look like they are attempting to hijack a confirmed booking from another city. If Leno announced that he was going to perform at JLA and Auburn Hills/Oakland County tried this it would be called racist. For the sake of the city don't engage in this act of ignorance. Maybe it should be in the "D" but it is not and let's move on for everyone sake. |

everytime Reeves speaks, it just seems that Conyers is pulling her strings by the way she always has to chime in to clarify what her incoherent ramblings meant. On another note though, I don't get how showing your ID would make you eligible for the free show if its supposed to be for laid off autoworkers. Anyone can show an ID, seems like they should something else, like a printout of your MESC page or something. I can see everybody showing up for this free show. Not that that's bad, but there's no real way to ensure that the autoworkers even get a shot at seats. |

By the way. If Jay can't schedule in Detroit, I wouldn't be surprised if he invited council to be special guests at the show. Does anyone think they would show up and sing a song? |

As a Detroiter, I have to call out current intern mayor Ken Cockrel. From the outside it looks like Detroit is being run by the Council President not the mayor. When Detroit held the special election, I voted for Cockrel because I believe he should be given the time to prove that he is qualified for the job. The fact that Conyers could assign a council member (Reeves) to solicit Jay Leno to change the venue of his upcoming show from AH to Detroit shows that the Council led by Conyers believes that Cockrel is weak. Selling the city is the job of the mayor not council. Council's job is to legislate not promote. Somehow with the bouncing of Kilpatrick, Detroit is in a vacuum and the wrong people keep speaking out. |

I am reminded of an old saying "don't look a gift horse in the mouth". I am not Leno fan (I like Letterman), but I cannot believe are bitching about a free show!! Who cares where it is. The auto industry is a Southeast Michigan industry! Next the city council is going to bitch to Ford and Chrysler to move their HQs into the city! Unbelievable! |

Benfield you aren't getting it. The Leno thing is just another episode in the Detroit soap opera. My post was about Cockrel being usurped by Conyers. It seems like everything that is Detroit is landing in the lap of Conyers good or bad. I agree with you that the Council is nuts, but the mayor must show that the nuts aren't running the asylum. This show is "for" anyone who is unemployed, not just the auto workers. Frankly, I don't think Leno would care if your not unemployed, because whether your employed or not we're still living in the same economy. |

Callin' out around the world, Are you ready for a brand new slip? Spring is near and the time is right For a council that's quite a trip Un - BEE - leevable, indeed, as Scooter says. Others also nailed it down tightly already:quote:embarassment . . . ignorant . . . stupid . . . no common sense . . . 'shot in foot' All I can add is self-parody. |

Well I guess on the bright side of the day Detroit has cleaned up its streets, improved its schools, put more police and firemen in the neighboorhoods, fixed the schools, and made Detroit the safest city in the country. This is has to be true, because otherwise why would the council busy themselves with something like this! Good job guys!! |

Martha Reeves does not have a clue...watch this incoherent interview which seems to completely befuddle Roger Weber, the reporter...another reason to sweep council clean and elect people like Cub, Gary Brown, etc. http://www.clickondetroit.com/ video/18900540/index.html |

Can you or anyone else guarantee that Ford Field or any other venue capable of seating 20,000+ thousand people in Detroit will provide FREE admission and FREE parking for this event? Unless there's a venue in Detroit with similar or larger seating capacity that is willing to do this, than any talk of "Moving it to Detroit" is premature. Unless Martha Reeves, Monica Conyers, or anyone else on the City Council can speak on behalf of these venues, then they are just talking out of their ass. But I have no doubt that they would have no problem seeing UNEMPLOYED people charged $10 a vehicle for parking if it meant it was at a Detroit venue. The only thing I can say is that I'm glad that suburbanites aren't as militant with "keeping their money in their own cities" and instead spend hundreds of millions of dollars at Ford Field, Joe Louis, Comerica, the Casinos, concerts, etc all in Detroit while some Detroiters here figure out ways to literally not spend even a dime in the suburbs. It seems that many people in Detroit think "regional cooperation" is supposed to be a one-way street, with the suburbs "giving" while Detroit "takes." |

Why in the world would anyone even pull for something as large as Ford Field to host a free comedy act? He'd be doing great if he got Cobo Arena, which is a venue fit for something like this. Anyway, glad Jay's coming, and I've been glad to see folks like him and NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams pulling for Detroit (and on Jay's late-night show, no less). |

After hearing that, I suppose Conyers could get a pass on this. It sounds like she wasn't aware or didn't really care about Leno coming to the Palace. Councilwoman Reeves was the one who suggest that they should make a power play to change Leno's mind about the show being in Auburn Hills. That said, Ms. Reeves should have thought this out before it got on record. First off, this is a free show. Leno probably chose the Palace because he is trying to make this affordable to the audience he is trying to attract. Had he chose JLA or FF then that means Detroit parking lots are going to charge for parking. He knew that. Second, the Palace is owned by Davidson. He can afford to take a no payday on the Palace. Ford Field is controlled by Detroit/Wayne Co. Can either of them afford to let the stadium be used for free? Same with Olympia. Ms. Reeves is looking at it from a Detroit/Suburbs POV but it is not the reason why the show is going to be at the Palace. It too bad that we have something new to laugh at. Can't wait til tomorrow. |

Martha Reeves needs to stop acting like a preschooler and be happy that Jay is doing something nice for us.Doesn't matter where he does his comedy at but I know he won't do it at Cobo since what happen at the Autorama. Hey Reeves!! The DETROIT Pistons plays in Auburn Hills!! |
