Reeves just needs to shut up. Her time would be more productive if she would spend some time giving Barbara Rose Collins some voice lessons. Usually when I hear a bad singer, I will say "Don't quit your day job", but in this case, Every damned one on the Detroit City Council ought to quit their day jobs and crawl back into what hole they came out of and do the City and Region a tremendous favor. |

Brooks PATERSON sure was having fun last night. Old Martha really stepped in a big cow pie with her remarks. Some people just don't know when to stop. |

I'm sure we all been around someone like this. They have nothing intelligent to add to a conversation, so they sit there quietly throughout without saying a word. Unfortunately, they have this uncontrollable urge to speak, so in the end they just blurt out something that makes no sense whatsoever, just so that they can feel like they were doing their job. This seems to be happening more and more often with Martha. |

From Mary Kramer's blog at Crain's this morning:quote:Martha et. al should try to make this work for city residents. Instead of complaining about it, coordinate church buses to take ticket-seekers out to the Palace . . . Council isn't funny; it's tragic. |

Did anyone see Leno on WDIV last night, interviewed by Bisi Onile-Ere? He mentioned things in the city he loves, including not only Greektown but John King Books! Who'd've thunk it? |

Clownsil should just say, THANKS....let us know if we can help. This show is not all about Detroit, or that ever embarassing city council. I hope Jay's people making these arrangements just ingnore all of them and carry on as they intended. Wouldn't it be just like the council to screw it up for everyone? |

Detroitbred...you hit the nail on the head!! I don't see Ms Reeves screaming for the Pistons to move back....or maybe we should just call them the Auburn Hills Pistons. |

Martha's heart is the the right spot as she is one of the few Motown stars to actually stay in the city, the problem is, she is clueless as a politician. So not she just rubber stamps everything MonCon wants. Of course this is the same lady who did not know if Tiger Stadium was torn down or not. |

Are we sure that the last time the circus was in town, that the freak show attractions didn't stay behind and take over city council?? |

When I voted for City Council in 2005, I made sure that I didn't vote for Monica Conyers (famous last name) and Martha Reeves. (Motown star) Past accomplishments nor someone last name should not make them elected by default. Yet four years later here we are and what's sad about this is that both of them will get re-elected by default. Trust me, I will not for either of them in the fall but others will vote for them because of their names. As a bouns, when I lived in California back in 2003, I did not vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger because I knew he would be elected just by his name. He knew he was a shoo-in and now California can't wait for him to be gone. (Message edited by BRG on March 11, 2009) |

This is really a non-issue. The Palace is an established entertainment venue for the whole region. The Pistons play there and have for about 20 years now, right? What's so objectionable about a one-time event choosing that venue? Does Martha Reeves have a mini freakout every time Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus chooses the Palace over JLA, too? Is she upset whenever an entertainer performs at Caesar's Windsor, too, instead of coming to one of the three Detroit casinos? Come on! Also, since this is about Jay Leno, I think it's worth mentioning that even The Tonight Show itself is not taped in Los Angeles, but in the nearby suburb of Burbank! Does anybody care? Doubtful. |

As usual, MR is just shooting off her mouth, not gathering any facts first, let alone checking them. Didn't even occur to her that maybe Detroit wasn't available when he was. As usual, she automatically took it as an insult. It was the first thought that came to her mind and blah, blah blah, out it came. Typical knee jerk response from Detroit (council) and as expected from Detroit (council), childish thinking. Check your facts Ms. Reeves, before you go running your mouth. Even if he did perform for free IN Detroit, the council would have been bitching about having to pay for extra police and whatnot and would have discouraged him from coming. I suppose that would have been more embarrassing than the current embarrassment, so it's all good. Auburn Hills was a great next best choice. The Palace is home for the Detroit Pistons and Chrysler headquarters is in Auburn Hills. (Message edited by thames on March 11, 2009) |

She doesn't have the wrong idea on this one just the wrong approach. Of course the Final Four makes it difficult to schedule anything that week but as far as I know Joe Louis Arena is dark that day. If you are in a "leadership" position in a city that was passed over for anything like this you have to ask yourself "why isn't it here and what can we do the next time it get it here?" She needs to make the call and ask them these questions not demand that it be moved. Just try harder next time. |

This maybe an over simplification and I apologize that I haven't read through all the posts in this thread but I did happen to catch Leno's announcement on the Tonight Show....Jay announced that Pepsi is backing the show...Could it be that Pepsi has ties with the Palace and the political undertones of Auburn Hills vs. a Detroit venue are way over stated and perhaps the free show (which could very well have PR implications for Leno and Pepsi) is just a way of showing the nation that the Detroit REGION needs recognition??? Another thing to consider is the fact that Detroit doesn't have the resources to even host something like this. If he wanted to do the show at Cobo, the city couldn't afford to give away the venue for the event, nor could they afford to offer free parking. Just covering security would be a strain. Another aspect is that Detroit (city council) can't grasp the meaning of cooperation. This event is a culmination of many entities contributing, for the greater good. They worked together to get the job done. Detroit (city council) can't comprehend that. (Message edited by thames on March 11, 2009) |

I'm a Detroiter and to be honest I could care less where Jay Leno has his show. I am sure most Detroiters feel the same way. That said, I am disgusted to see that CNN has capitalized on this nonsense. Detroit is going to host the Final Four in three weeks. The Final Four has sold out every downtown hotel. Guarantee patrons to visit the casinos and Martha Reeves had to open her mouth about a free show. So what if the show is in Auburn Hills!! The show isn't about making money or selling a location. (Auburn Hills) The show is a benefit for those who are going through hard times and now it is on CNN.com for everyone to see. |

Church buses, Crain's? Really? From Detroit? I didn't know "church folk" were part of Jay's demographic....(giggle) The metro area is so sad and depressed we can't even appreciate when someone is trying to do something nice...and FREE!!! (sigh) |

And correct me if I am wrong, but since as stated before, the Final 4 is in Detroit at the time, Cobo will be unavailable also. Since there is various NCAA events at Cobo, not to mention a College Coaches conference there. Downtown is kind of busy, and someone like Leno has a crazy schedule to fit something in like this. |

I am sure that I might be wrong, but aren't the majority of unemployed auto workers living outside the boundaries of the City of Detroit? As in living in the suburbs? Sounds like the suburbs might therefore make the best place to have the show. |

Martha Reeves stated "that it has nothing to do with anything. I just want to see Leno. I would like to see Leno." Unfortunately, as of now you do not qualify as an unemployed Detroiter. If you would like to resign your post, I am sure someone would offer you a few free tickets to the show, AND pay for a metro car to drive you back and forth from the palace |

If Martha Reeves is so worried about Jay Leno, then why isn't she protesting the Ferndale concert, for not being in Detroit, that she is taking part in to spur car buyers. "A spokeswoman for Detroit councilwoman and former Motown star Martha Reeves said that Reeves would start the concert at AJ's Music Café by singing the national anthem" http://www.freep.com/article/2 0090312/NEWS03/903120337/1005/ NEWS/Music+marathon+aims+to+in spire+car+buyers |
