We'll soon see. Noticed, on Channel 4 coverage, Monica Conyers chewing gum in the court room. The usual decorum from the professionals on the City Council! |

This is getting ridiculous. I've lived in cities where the convention center was operated by a regional authority, and regional funding was used to operate it. However, the main urban city in which the center was located reaped the benefits of all of the out-of-towners staying close in local hotels, eating in local restaurants, and paying hotel, food, and beverage taxes. Those taxes kept the locals employed, a lot of them at the convention center itself. You watch, someone's going to build a major convention center (larger than Rock) in Oakland or Macomb, or somewhere. When that happens, and the convention and trade show business leaves Detroit, the City Council will be standing there, palms turned up, saying "What just happened?". They're bringing this on themselves. Actually, they'll be standing there, palms up, holding their "asset", wondering "What just happened". |
