OK, here goes:

2/3 cup apple butter
2/3 cup natural peanut butter
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup flax meal
2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup dried cherries

Oven @ 300 for 40 minutes. Mix apple butter and peanut butter. Add next two ingredients. Add oatmeal and cherries. Put into an 8 x 8 pan and push into ungreased pan with wet hands.

Cut into bars while still warm out of the oven.

I will grant you this is not a pop tart, but it is easy and good.

Carolcb - sounds very healthy and delish! I'm gonna try it. Now, for the flax meal - would ground flax seeds suffice? I have very finely ground ones that I use all the time. I've got all the other stuff except for the dried cherries. They are on my shopping list now.

Eriedearie, gosh I don't know. I went to Wild Oats/Whole Foods for most of the stuff I am making right now - ever since I decided I would pay for Caduet no more! My cholesterol got down to 131 - which I have to say I see no point in that. Anyways - I did find that stuff at Kroger - that Bob's Red Mill stuff.

Usually just read here and print out the interesting recipes, but today I'm proud to say my two-day Chicken soup has made my house smell wonderful.

I just put a 6# Boston Butt, studded with cloves rubbed with a mixture from my uncle's restaurants in Dayton, then slathered with mustard into the slow-cooker atop a bed of sliced onions and a quart of apple juice.

Now, I have to wait at least 12 hours until I pull it.

The last time I made pulled pork, I used KC Masterpiece BBQ sauce, I took it into work to share. One of my co-workers complained because I didn't use Open Pit (yuck).

Eggplant Parmesan tomorrow, to use those two egglants I picked up for a buck yesterday at Eastern Market.

I love reading this thread, lots of great suggestions.

I wish I knew! I know paprika, garlic, salt and pepper are involved but as to the actual formula it is a secret not shared, even with family.

Baked beans and cornbread here. A chunk of slab bacon, peppers and onions, NO sweetening. Soak 'em overnight and bake 'em all day at 300.

Ok Gazhekwe...ya got me goin' now...

What about pinto beans and ham, served with a slab of fresh baked cornbread. Now that'll warm the cockles of your heart! My Virginia Grandma could make the best beans and cornbread. Hummm...I think I'll go soak some beans overnight and cook 'em tomorrow.

OK, here is a cold meal!

My husband was fired today after 22 years! I had been trying to call him - I thought he was out buying a new truck (I was NOT happy about that). I went home at lunch - the look on his face I thought someone was dead.

Merry Christmas. Actually things could be much much worse, I guess. His lemon Pontiac that I have hated since it broke down on 1-69 (the engine told itself to turn everything off as I was going 70 with 380 miles on a new car)... well that car is paid off this month.

The kids are all in school. We could sell the house for what we owe on it if we had to......

I am 51....he is 48. Party on, I don't mean to be flip, but what are you going to do?

Sorry for the thread hijack.

You bean lovers out there....try to use a smoked turkey leg or arm to cook your beans in.
A little sprinkle of baking soda in your beans during the soak will eliminate a lot of the
fun gas that comes from them. (Yes, I said "fun gas".)

Carolcb - I'm really sorry about your husband losing his job. Especially at this time of year. It hurts to get let go at anytime of the year, but how heartless can an employer be to do it at this time. That was low down and rotten. Your husband will be better off to not be in the employ of such a heartless Scrooge-like place. It will take a while but he will bounce back. As they say "One door closes and another opens". Best wishes to you and yours.

This part of December is a classic time to be cut. It shows a last minute improvement to the bottom line. Last year, two guys in my workplace, both 25+ year veterans, were laid off while they were at lunch. When they returned, guards were waiting to escort them out of the building. That was their notice.

Doesn't change the fact of how sorry I am, Carol.

The_ed: So a sprinkle of baking soda in the bean soak will remove some of the "toot factor"? I'll try that next time we have our three sons and their families here for a hillbilly supper. Things can get pretty raunchy with those boys scarfing down that kind of a meal. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks to both of you. I think we are angrier today than we were on Wednesday. I am ready to sell the house and move anywhere. And thinking of making a big firepit in the backyard and burning everything with any association to the Co.
We have three kids in college. I still say no good deed goes unpunished. But the older I get, it really does seem that the creeps are winning. The manager - we were at his sister-in-law's funeral last Sunday. I won't say anything else, I know there are people out there worse off than we are, and we are just regular people. I will let you know when something good happens. ( - ;

Food - Is there a recipe for whipped mustard dressing for ham?

Believe me, you have others out here in worse places
than you can imagine. (CC is not one of them), But please hang in there!
