quote:

Are all his lyrics that childish sounding?

It is a hurdle. He comes up with great vocal lines, and can arrange quite well, but the lyrics can be painful. With the Raconteurs, at least Jack curbs a lot of that.

Saw the Raconteurs at their Ann Arbor show summer of 2006. They were really good live, much better than I expected. They did a really cool rocked out version of Cher's Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me) with Jack doing the vocals. As for the new album, I'm starting to warm up to it after a few listens, really like the rocker Salute Your Solution.

Listening to a Fela Kuti dvd- a copy of the French tv special from 1981, "Music Is The Weapon Of The Future"... I really wish I could have seen him live, I didn't get hip until it was too late.

Now playing Galactic with Boots Randolph from Thursday night. They were at Lee's Palace in T.O. I guess they must have recently played Detroit as well. Heavy New Orleans chunk-a-funk! They hold their own against "The Funky Meters". A Meters reunion (every 5 years or so?) can't be beat, but Galactic bring it on. They sound harder than they used to, but Galactic still put on a tough, funky show. Boots is cool, but I still miss the Houseman.

Oldredfordette, you might also enjoy either Barb Jungr or Rosey who both have similarities to Eunice Waymon (Nina Simone). I've acquired an appreciation for Nina Simone through my wife who has virtually all the CDs.

For Barb Jungr, try "Every Grain of Sand" ( 2002) or her latest, "Just Like a Woman (Hymn to Nina)" (2008).

Rosey, try "Luckiest Girl" (2008).

If Bobby Sherman is 5 ft 9, I'm Naomi Watts.

I saw that guy at Edgewater Amusement Park when I was twelve and I was taller than him even then. I'm 5ft6.

Listening to the BoDeans. Saw them last night, a very good show.
