I don't remember if we had a thread like this, but we do now!

I saw Milk yesterday. A very very good movie. Even though I knew what was going to happen (both from memory and from the opening scene) it still got to me. A long movie but not to be missed. I think Sean Penn has done it this time. He doesn't chew up the scenery but instead delivers a fully formed character. Also kudos for James Franco and Emile Hirsch. Really amazing.

On the other end of the spectrum, we watched "Enchanted" - my husband was sure I was paying him back for some of the assorted bad action flicks he has chosen, instead we laughed our butts off. Charming and funny.

I saw Enchanted. It wasn't too bad, lighthearted and funny.

Also saw the new Indy movie. That was pretty terrible. I actually thought it was decent until young Indy started swinging like tarzan on vines (apparently fast enough to catch up with two speeding cars) with an army of monkeys helping him fight bad guys. Then it just kept going downhill.

I just rented "Black Snake Moan" among others, and can highly recommend it.

Samuel Jackson and Christina Ricci.

Being a WW II history buff, I'm looking forward to "Valkyre", being released on Christmas day.

I like both of the Hellboys. I never read his comic books or anything, so all I know is the movies. They are very fun. He is an interesting character for sure. Fighting evil and saving kittens.

Look for the new "Punisher: War Zone" movie to be shallow, flimsy cardboard.
This is a case of a movie based on a comicbook character who was based on a movie ("Death Wish")character.
And I LIKE many of the recent movies based on comicbook characters.

Punisher is begging for a "Sin City" type of remake. They haven't got it right yet, but when they do..

There's already three shitty Punisher movies. One in 1989 with Dolph Lundgren, and one in 2004 with Thomas Jane. And apparently, one in 2005 nobody heard of that must have gone straight to video?

Speaking of shit, how about the remake of my favorite movie, The Day The Earth Stood Still? Are you kidding?

Keanu Reeves in the leading role?

Directed by a shitstain who directed The Exorcism of Emily Rose and a straight to DVD Hellraiser movie? This guy thinks he belongs remaking one of the greatest movies of all time? AND I hear he is going to remake THE BIRDS too?! Now this douchebag thinks he can improve on Hitchcock?

Soon to be a T.V. show based on a movie based on a comic book character who was based on a movie ("Death Wish") character.

I'm guessing on that, but Hollywood seems to have no shame.

Ray1936 - "Valkyre" looks like a good movie, but I'm just about sick of Tom Cruise.

Australia with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, need I say more? Really a movie to see on the big screen. Long- 2 hours and 45 minutes. I loved every minute of it. Beautiful scenery and a good story. Nothing to thinky....

I recently had the great pleasure of seeing "Watership Down". (Richard Adams - 1972) After rereading it for maybe the 5th time, I looked on the internet and discovered that it was made into a movie in 1978.

Like the book, this movie will be among my all time favorites.

"but I'm just about sick of Tom Cruise."

Gotta agree with you somewhat, Bigb23. And, yeah, Bats, a Christmas Day release is a bit odd for that type of film.

Best movies I've seen lately were:

Pride and Glory - Edward Norton and Colin Farrell, absolutely loved it, wish it had more promotion because it deserved to do better than it did.

Madagascar 2 - not just for kids, really funny and enjoyable for adults too, if you like to laugh

Rentals:
August Rush - just gorgeous and beautiful story, one of my all time faves

Funny Games - disturbing and creepy, stays with you long after the movie ends!

I'm looking forward to Brad Pitt's upcoming movie, something about The Curious Life of Benjamin (Somebody?). It looks really good, like it might be an Oscar worthy performance for him.

Good Thread. I wish I would have seen it before I started the one on downloadable movies and shows next door under "connect"

Im loving Sons of Anarchy. As far fetched as it is I just love the characters. And its fun watching Peg Bundy be a realistic bitch.

Thanks Pam, I didnt know that you could watch movies on youtube.

Holy christ, "Funny Games" was horrible. Worst movie I've seen in years. I'm still trying to figure out who to send the bill to for that piece of shit. The whole time I was thinking of about a thousand different ways this family could have gotten out of the situation. The father couldn't move any other muscle because of a broken leg? Of course later on he had no problem moving about. The rewind scene was the apex of shittiness for the movie, though. I rank "Funny Games" up there with "Deep Impacy", "Armageddon" and "Dreamcatcher" for all-time shitty movies.

On a lighter note, now that I have a Blu-Ray player, HDMI cable, and a full HD 1080p tv, I could sit through almost any movie just for the picture.

I agree "Funny Games" was worse than horrible. At the begining when they pulled up to the gate, the same guy that was waving oddly was the same guy who helped him put his boat in the water. The movie should've been over right then and there. I need my refund too. I actually had to watch the rest of the movie just to see how much worse it would get.

A funny movie is Step Brothers, I know it might be cheezy to some but the testicles on the drum set had me dying laughing.

An Ok movie was Wanted. I hate when the movie makers force a movie to be sexy instead of making a sexy action flick. I liked the concept, but it seemed like they were trying to do too much.

Check out Zach and Miri Make a Porno. Easily the funniest comedy I've seen this year.

Disclaimer: Prudes (and the easily offended) should not watch this. Went in with a NC-17 rating, but they moved it back to R. Definitely should be NC-17.

Another movie rave - "The Mist" a Sci-Fi film for the thinking man. (Or woman). I read this Steven King story years ago, thinking what a great movie it would make.
The writer/director of this film did an excellent job that showcases the actors and script.
Great job, and you won't be disappointed in this rental. :-)

Generally speaking, the quality of a Stephen King film is inversely proportionate to King's involvement in the making of the film. How involved was he in this one? :-)

Frank Darabont, had input from Stephen King on this movie. But the directors other movies before this were pretty impressive. The Shawshank Redemption (1994),Saving Private Ryan (1998),The Green Mile (1999),The Fan (1996). It makes this a big step up from the average sci-fi flick.
I always replay a movie with the directors commentary if available. He's pretty good on this one.
