Karl Rove asserts that the president has shown a dangerous "winging it" governing style.

Heck no, he isn't winging it. He is transparently cryptic. He chooses words carefully as part of his con. For instance, he promises to decrease the deficit that his administration "inherited" by 50% over 4 years. Like a magician, he is drawing attention to that 50 billion dollars and likely via selective book-keeping will accomplish what he promises. Oh, btw, never mind that he just spent over 1 trillion dollars in 5 weeks (for starters).

more belly laughs from bats.

no, it is clear that Obama is NOT winging it, it is also clear that he is not locked into some ideologically based path, despite what some reactionaries here might have us believe

I've tried my best to keep from getting personal with CC; however, after observing his habits, expect an answer in the vein of a "true conservative", whomever or whatever THAT might be.

Karl Rove commenting on style of governance is amusing.

EVERYTHING that Rove touched in his years in the administration turned out to be a gigantic disaster. He has all of the governing credibility of a Spiro Agnew.

GWB, if that were possible. Anything other than a liberal socialist would be better than the mess we have voted ourselves into for the next 4 years.

Bats, you said:
"... the mess we have voted ourselves into for the next 4 years."

I think you meant to say:
"the mess we voted ourselves into the past 8 years...."

In your lifetime this country has never been so weak. You are quick to blame the demise of Detroit on its present and past leadership... Why not the country?

I blame the decline on liberal policies most recently of the early 70's, and prior to that, the 30's...the New Deal and Great Society.

Look at history, what made the US the success that it was (and hopefully will be again) is liberty and capitalism. What has, and is happening to all nations that stray to far in the direction of socialism? Where is Obama (and his predecessors as I mentioned above) taking us?

@bats
...I base the downfall of the past 8 years on the pilgrims who arrived in the 1600's... WTF

I hope you are posting in 80 or 90 years...
This way you can properly assign blame to GW's "klan" for the years ranging from about 2002-2009...

The early 70s, let's see who was prez...oh yeah, Nixon, then his replacement Ford.
I have to admit I was completely unaware that "The Great Society" occurred in the 30s. I'm guessing a young LBJ was running a phantom administration in parallel to FDR. Seeing how he didn't enter Congress until 1937 as a freshman representative, Lyndon must've been extremely industrious from the get go.
I've heard of revisionism gone amok but this an entirely new plateau.

CC: " What has, and is happening to all nations that stray to far in the direction of socialism?"

Like Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Canada? They're doing just fine. Thanks for asking.

Look again at those places "doing just fine". Just yesterday, a coworker from Canada burst out laughing when someone asked about Canadian health care saying that it takes a year to get a CT scan.

Then look to Europe to see the drastic reversals towards capitalism being attempted (but likely too little and too late to do the job) from these socialist leaning countries that are, as you put it, doing just fine.

Sure, CC, out of the THIRTY-FOUR MILLION Canadians, you can find or ten, or one hundred, or one thousand who will say anything they think will please you. I am sure that you could find one thousand connies (right here on DY even) who would tell you Ronnie Reagan was actually the second incarnation of Jesus. I don't believe that just because a couple of isolated kooks say either thing that it makes it so.

To the contrary, you would have no trouble finding HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS, maybe MILLIONS, of Americans who would tell you that, despite being hard workers and conscientious savers all of their lives, a serious family illness emptied all of their savings, made them lose their homes, and basically bankrupted them - all through the benevolence of greedy (private) hospitals, (private) drug companies, and other (private) health care providers in general.

(Got any anecdotal stories about someone telling you that Ron Paul is actually an alien from the planet Klay-Too in the Orion Nebula?)

Let mee see here? Obama might be winging it? What exactly were Rove and Bush doing? They were certainly in complete control at all times as proven by 09/11, the war in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, the de-regulation of corporations and markets, their masterful, well-planned 'free-market' economy, Guantanamo, Abu-Graib, etc, etc. They were the masters of the free-for-all.

None of these people are winging it.

Iraq is a roaring success. Afghanistan has been modestly successful, and may yet be a roaring success...now on Obama's watch (so it may well get screwed up).

Unfortunately, GWB was a weak capitalist as evidenced by liberal like spending on entitlements which furthered the cause of creeping socialism and was contrary to free enterprise. Now, under Obama, we have leaping socialism and the misery it is, and will bring.

CC: "Iraq is a roaring success"

If your criteria for success is America being lied into an immoral war, causing thousands of our service people to be killed, tens of thousands wounded, and needlessly spending a TRILLION OF OUR TAXPAYER DOLLARS, then yes, Iraq was a roaring success. (Sadly interesting how spendthrift you cons are when it involves wasting our tax dollars on needlessly killing people.)

To the rational world, however, Iraq was an abysmal failure, perpetrated by a consciousless criminal, Dubya.
