Two articles from the Allpar site http://www.allpar.com/news/ind ex.php/2009/03/chrysler-busine ss-centers-hiring/ Chrysler Business Centers hiring March 12th, 2009 by Bill Cawthon In a refreshing change of pace, Chrysler is hanging out the “help wanted” sign again. The company is now accepting applications for Sales and Service DM positions in all the Business Centers. Word is that the last round of buyouts was a bit too effective and Chrysler now needs to fill some slots. ------------------------------ ------------------- http://www.allpar.com/news/ind ex.php/2009/03/chrysler-bringi ng-call-centers-back-home/ Chrysler bringing call centers back home March 12th, 2009 by Bill Cawthon According to Paul Alcala, Chrysler’s Director for Customer Satisfaction, Senior Management, the company is in the process of returning support for the Customer Assistance Center toll-free telephone number from India back to the United States. Alcala says the transition will take several months to complete, but some calls are already being handled in America and the percentage will grow over time to 100 percent. There will be two U.S.-based centers, Hamlin Road Center in Rochester Hills, Michigan, and one in Salt Lake City, Utah, called either SLC or Tier 2. All customer calls placed to 800-992-1997 will go to Salt Lake City first, and then to Hamlin Road, if needed. Alcala said Chrysler is also working on a program that would allow dealership personnel to communicate with either center by e-mail. This feature is already operational at the SLC center and the company hopes to have it implemented in the near future at the Hamlin Road Center. |

All of the guys in my group got laid off around Thanksgiving last year, and were hired back several weeks ago because too much work wasn't getting done. Our manager told the hiring manager "these guys are great, interview them" and they even got raises. O. |

As a die-hard Chrysler guy, I was more than happy to post something positive about them for once. Otter, that's great everyone got their jobs back with raises to boot. What do you do for them? Erie has been terrific with info about her hubby working for Ma Mopar at Windsor & about some of the plants. Mash, great to see ya! :-) I'll be out on reserve duty next week so getting online may prove to be a challenge. If any more news or releases come along I'll try to get them posted. Y'all have a great weekend! Dan |

Mopardan, Nothing anymore - I was laid off in 12/07. Last summer I found what must be the only more-or-less-auto job in Chicago (my girlfriend lives there) and moved. I don't miss the US car industry environment at all, but I sure miss the work and car culture. It will draw me back (somewhere) eventually. I worked in vehicle development on the quality end, doing problem-solving and vehicle evaluation and testing. I was responsible for Fast Feedback for FWD cars except RT and CS. We always joked (we were all contract) that the only way to get more money was to leave and come back, and nothing's proved us wrong so far. I think I know about 3 people at Chrysler now. Everyone else took a buyout or got laid off. O. |

If they only hadn't asked for, and taken the bailout. Then we would have something to celebrate. Hope is not entirely lost however. If they later pay it all back in full and with fair market interest, then they can become a private enterprise again...only with a big black mark on their record. Ditto GM. |

Otter, it sounds like you were doing interesting work. Esp where testing & eval comes in. East, I wasn't sure whether to post this over on the Detroit side or not. I guess I could & see what happens. I'm trying to get ready for a week of reserve duty. I'll have my laptop with me, but will have to track down a connection somewhere. Here is some more news reported today. http://www.allpar.com/news/ind ex.php/2009/03/chrysler-could- face-july-cash-crunch/ Chrysler could face July cash crunch March 15th, 2009 by Bill Cawthon Ron Kolka, Chrysler’s chief financial officer, told the Associated Press that, even with the government loans, the automaker might face another cash shortage in July when the company shuts down for model break. Model break, the period when the assembly lines are shut down to allow the tooling and fixtures needed for the new model year to be installed, means a two-week interruption to critical cash flow. Kolka would not speculate on what might happen without additional government aid, but said he did not plan to run out of cash. He reminded reporters that Chrysler has planned very conservatively and can be viable even if the annual sales rate falls to 9.1 million, the slowest pace in almost three decades. |

Downsize commensurate with the economy, oust the unions in order to be competitive, pay back the bailout with interest, convince government to deregulate (or endeavor to vote the statists out), and design/produce products that customers want need and desire. Simple formula, and the solution to all that ails them (and others in the auto industry...really any industry). |
