http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/ news/story?id=4002027 "NEW YORK -- Two grand? Fuhgetaboutit. If you want to buy a front-row seat at the new Yankee Stadium for an individual game, the list price of a ticket is $2,625." Good grief. Only the Yankees. |

Isn't a new semi-pro baseball team supposed to start at the old Pontiac Mall ? I'd watch AAA or A over anything else, any day. WWW.pontiacclassabaseball.com |

A few months ago some mogul here shelled-out $400k for 2 seats on the Jets 50-yard line, first row. The kicker is that his $400k only gives him first-pick preference for those seats. He still has to pay an additional $14k/yr for season tickets! I wonder if he gets a complimentary ass-warmer for that price... http://www.nypost.com/seven/10 192008/news/regionalnews/400g_ jets_tickets_the_priciest_ever _134246.htm |

If somebody wants to spend that much for a ticket to a baseball game, that is entirely their business. These days, my favorite baseball is free. You can come see it, too, and admission won't cost you a dime. In fact, if I am announcing the game and you come to the announcer booth while I am there and tell me you saw this announcement on www.detroityes.com, your first hot dog is on me. Limit one to a customer, please. www.michiganmiracle.org |

Bigb23, the ballpark at Summit Place (Diamond at the Summit) will not be opening this season. Hell, they never even broke ground on it! The team will be playing at EMU's baseball stadium instead. I just wonder why they couldn't get a deal to play at OU though. Would have been much closer to their so-called fanbase. http://www.cruisersbaseball.co m/ |

'tis true. I learned about this last year. A friend of mine who knows the Nederlanders [of Broadway fame and part owners of the Yankees - and from Detroit] told me they had paid $810K for their four seat box behind the Yankee dugout. They shrugged it off since as owners it would ultimately be discounted by the profits they earn. Makes $10 dog sound like chump change, eh? |

Everyone knows how you were using that term. And no, it's not cute or a game to call someone names. It simply demonstrates a lack of substance and indicates a proclivity for argumentative behavior rather than an earnest will to openly discuss points of view. |

That simply is not a matter of name calling...it wasn't even directed at anyone in particular. Some may have taken it to be insulting if they fit the description of the generic socialist depicted in the comment. |

Oh, so now it's a "generic socialist" you were trying to depict, whereas yesterday it was a "term of endearment". Glad you admitted that you were playing games and really intending it as an insult in your eyes. Apology accepted. |

Some may have taken it to be insulting if they fit the description of the generic socialist depicted in the comment. Yeah, right, if so, then you would have had to instead post the encompassing plural "comrades" instead of the direct, singular, and capitalized "Comrade" AND in parenthesis (New Yorkers). Pretty obvious that this question was primarily directed at East_detroit, and not anyone else. (Message edited by Flanders_field on March 24, 2009) |

Flanders, you're correct. Ccbatson admits guilt and exudes an apology by making conflicting statements and then skipping this in his daily selfish running of the board. Why the admins allowed me to go through the mental anguish of being called a name every time someone reads this thread... I will have to follow up on in THE PEOPLE'S COURT. 10 minutes to Wapner. |

Clearly, it was generically addressed to anyone criticizing the people choosing to spend their money on these seats (and many on the thread were doing just that). Criticizing, or more to the point, calling into question the right of an individual to spend their wealth in any legal manner that they see fit is collectivist/socialist as is/was communism. Russian communism being the largest example of this mentality prompted me to invoke the phrase used by them to refer to other members of their collective..."comrade". |

-This is why overall attendance is down, sure there are a few people willing to pay that much for a seat, but the last few professional games I have been too, there have been a lot of empty seats. Sorry but your average game with crappy seats, parking and few beers will easily set you back $200, there are a lot of better values for the entertainment dollar out there. They have simply priced themselves out of market. What till a lot of the wage cuts hit the masses, then it will really show. It'll be interesting when the players finally get their share of pay cuts, personally I have never felt any athletes are worth what they get paid such as A-ROD. I simply will not support it. As for CC, well, he's just a poor soul looking for attention, and tries to get it by any means necessary-facts be dammed. Some day when he grows up he might even be able to be in a normal healthy relationship with somebody. I'm sure his pick up line of "I've got over 20,000 post, and people still are not interested in me" could use some fine tuning however. |

No... A comrade can be socially or politically close, a closeness that is found at the etymological heart of the word comrade. In Spanish the Latin word camara, with its Late Latin meaning "chamber, room," was retained, and the derivative camarada, with the sense "roommates, especially barrack mates," was formed. Camarada then came to have the general sense "companion." English borrowed the word from Spanish and French, English comrade being first recorded in the 16th century. The political sense of comrade, now associated with Communism, had its origin in the late-19th-century use of the word as a title by socialists and communists in order to avoid such forms of address as mister. This usage, which originated during the French Revolution, is first recorded in English in 1884. |

I already explained, in detail, the root of the word in MY usage of it folks. I didn't mean to suggest that I was a communist, rather that I was extending a comforting welcome to the recipient of the phrase as a comrade in the sense of a communist being welcomed to group of other communists. More specifically, the group of communists being referred to here are those folks on this thread objecting to an individual having the freedom of choice to spend their money as they see fit (within the law). |

Okay, so now its not a term of endearment and instead it has gone from "generic socialist " to calling me a "communist" because I don't like Wall Street failures getting multi-million dollar bonuses that my tax money helped pay for. |
