Well it's that time again (thank the heavens!) This time we've got the hapless Bears, who look ready to implode. Still they're 2 points over, I'm guessing due to HFA. Pollard has emerged as the early leader of the team, and if Joey can keep up his mistake-free season, the Lions will win handily. The defense still worries me a little, but hopefully they'll take the Bears to school. Hope Mooch doesn't pull a Marty! LOL Lions 24 Bears 10 |

I'm definitely not going to call Kalimba a teeth rattler...... This guy does not put consistent pressure on the quarterback. On this particular play he was left totally unblocked. Hall is really the only pass rusher the Lions have. Now if you were to show Kennedy, now thats a teeth rattler. |

By the way, The Rock brings up a good point. The Lions can't even handle the routine chore of bringing in a backup kicker without messing it up. They signed a guy who has never kicked in an NFL game. WTF is that? |

I don't see anything wrong with the signing of Hamilton. It's not like there are a glut of kickers with a ton of NFL experience out there just waiting for a phone call. Granted Hamilton's tried out with a ton of NFL teams only to get cut at the last minute but he's at least close enough to that caliber. He's also played years in the Arena League where the width of the posts are much smaller and he's also played at Michigan Stadium where there's heaps of noise and crowd pressure. He's also on the practice squad until the Lions are 110% sure Hanson can't go. http://www.freep.com/sports/li ons/lions17e_20050917.htm |

Ya know, I really think Joey isn't the problem. His fuckin' line obviously decided to take the day off, and his recievers can't even run their damn routes. Truly pathetic! Then on defense, what the hell happened to the qb pressure they showed Favre last week? I'm getting sick of Mariucci's candy ass too. I wanna see him chewing some ass when these players mess up. Was glad to atleast see Joey and Jones get in Roy Williams face when he ran his own route and cost Detroit a touchdown. I say can the Mooch. |

Blessyouboys, forgive my insensitivity but I gave up on the Lions when they hired Wayne Fontes as head coach before the end of the season when Dan Reeves and Marty Shottenheimer were available. How long ago was that? You get the picture. Until the Lions get an owner who truly wants to spend money to get quality coaches and players, the Lions will continue to be a sub-par or average team. Period. |

no lockerroom leadership - somebody wearing a number needs to stand up and rattle the cage I'd suggest a no coaches players meeting to vent and set things right as talented as Harrington may be he doesn't seem to be earning respect from his players - even just having people call him "Joe" instead of "Joey" would help |

Andy's right. They throw money at the wrong things. Millen's a prime example, they gave a bundle of money to become GM when he had zero experience. They just extended Millen's contract despite the fact he's achieved nothing and isn't in demand to be a GM anywhere else. |

The Lions payroll is among the top 8-10 teams, but they're not getting their money's worth. I don't think will ever win as long as Ford is owner. They continue to make the wrong decisions about management personnel and key players. As a result, there is no real continuity of management or players. I go back to the Tiger Stadium days, when you could vent your frustration by throwing snow balls at Milt Plum. I'm lucky that very few Lions' games are televised here, so I'm not wasting my Sundays watching the games. On the other hand, we get too many Cowboys, Cardinals and Broncos games. |

ATL_runner: MSU almost blew that game. It looked like a classic comeback for the Irish, and I'm starting to come around and believe that they've got a shot of making a big bowl game. Can't wait to see what a couple years of recruiting will do for them. Man that was unexpected. I gave up after the Williams debacle. Still, the NFC North is wide open, and the bye week gives us time to work on some serious issues... O-Line, Scrambling, Route Running, LB Coverage. I can say one thing that made me laugh was that "initiation" the Bears O-Line gave their boy Kyle Orton. LOL Is it too late to change season predictions? |

I have to admit, I am shocked at how badly they were beaten, it is embarrassing. I picked them to go 10-6 as did The Sporting News and other magazines. Now, it is only ONE game and they could come back to play better. It is a little hard to believe they will br dramatically different. After the first quarter in yesterdays game, I couldn't take it anymore and went outside to work in my yard - I am sure glad I did. The yard looks good and the wife is happy! I will predict 8-8 at this point! |

What is Dick Jauron thinking? No blitz's against a rookie QB? THAT, is pathetic! Why are the Lions playing zone coverage instead of man to man? And why no blitz? Just a pathetic defense. As for offense, no use in getting star receivers IF YOU DON'T THROW DOWN THE FIELD! This "west coast offense" is so outdated, it HAS to go. Harrington, as much as he was beaten up yesterday still can't read the field. I mean how many blind sided safety blitz's can you get nailed for? And where the hell was the O-line on these same blitz's? Overall, these are the same Lion's as last year. ...watching Joey "blue skies, piano man, etc" fumble through another season. If Detroit had a decent backup QB (and if they aren't looking for one they had better start. Because waiting for Garci to heal is waaay to long)Joey would be benched. As it stands, bye-bye Joey. I'll bet on that! |

I would be more optimistic of the Lions recovering and having a good season if this type of ass whipping didn't happen every other game. Why can't the Lions atleast be entertaining to watch? I would rather watch paint dry! Look at MSU, they aren't always going to win, but it sure is hell going to be exciting!! The U of M game last year and the Notre Dame game were great, win or lose. It's sports, it's supposed to entertain us. (Message edited by Ohudson on September 19, 2005) |

The one thing that needs to change is the coaching the Lions are to often unprepared and that is why the Lions are so often done at halftime under Mooch. Teams adjust week to week and during the games Mooch just does the same old same old each week. For F***ing sake make some adjustments week to week and during the game. |

I'd like to see Millen take over the coaching position. When he sees a pussy, he calls them a pussy. This happy go lucky bullshit has been on our sidelines way too long. I want a coach that gets in the players face and chews their ass out when they don't run their routes, come off the ball slow, and make no effort to get open when covered. Aside from the offensive line which is questionable at best, this should be a solid team. Our offense should be one of the most potent in the league, but to me, it seems our coach doesn't know how to utilize it. A 3 yd dump pass to Jones when its 3rd and 17? The 51 yard td to Roy Williams is what we need to see more of. We have recievers that can out run most anybody in the league, yet Mooch isn't using it. I'm not sure if we need to ditch the west coast offense or not, because I have yet to see them actually run a west coast offense. I want a coach that is gonna blow up during a post game interview after a game like that. Not somebody who says "Well, gee whiz, I guess it just wasn't our day." Screw that shit. |

Sure, let's put him in another position that he has no experience in. He deserves a leap of faith here, huh? 17-49 |

More of a bad thing (Millen) is not the answer. |

Uh yeah...we somehow need more pseudo machismo from Matt Millen...gimme a break Sport. You think Bill Belichik walks around thumping his chest like a caveman? This starts with the owner...and flutters all the way down to the field....the are a joke of an organization, and have been so for the past 45 years. I'll say it again (this one is for Czar) They are a loser organization, owned by losers, coached by losers, and have a collection of players who consistently go out and lose. Why would this year honestly be any different than the last 4? Because they drafted Mike Williams? |

Folks, you can't blitz when the defensive line is giving up 4 yards per run. In fact the 2 times they did blitz, Chicago broke off a 25yard run and a 3rd and 15 yard run. Just take it easy cornbread lovers....it's just the second game...and they don't win on the road anyway. This is a average team with average offensive talent and a college quarterback. In this division 8-8 will get you a division title__ so chill-out ya'll, and keep your cornbread on warm and hold the butter for now. super d(motordetroit) |

And, if you think the coach is to blame for everything, remember, Millen's first choice was a disaster. He fired his first head coach and circumvented NFL hiring rules to get his second choice, who also doesn't appear to be working out. At this point, all the "talent" on the Lion roster appears to be a smattering of former college stars who can't get the job done in the pros. |

That's the really scary thing about Millen's football intellect. He did whatever he could to secure Mooch and now it seems like they have differing football philosophies. It’d be nice to have a GM who did his homework. |

We need a drill sergeant as coach. Hire Gunney Remy ! If I'm going to see that kind of lack of effort, I want to take solace that someone's getting their ass kicked in between Sundays. We are so very sloooooooow !!! |

I noticed the same thing, Bongman. The Lions, who turned over the whole roster to become faster, are still slooooooow as hell!! Our receivers don't play very fast, or quick. They run piss poor routes and like one of the analysts said, "Roy Williams looks like he's running on nails!" And I do see how Kevin Jones ran so slow at the combine, atleast now I do. I also think the the loss of Cory Schlesh (sp?) ... (whatever) but he seems more and more valuable by the play! Maybe if he's the lead blocker our backs can make to the line of scrimmage before getting hit. |

It's all because they cut Kircus. The Lions would be 2-0 leading the league in pass offense if "Drunk Driving Dave" was out there. |

I blame the coach because talent alone doesn't win games, this is the NFl all teams have talent. Talent still needs to be coached. Look at NE when was the last time you heard someone say they are the most talented team in the league, good talent plus great coach. |

And if its the coach....who do we blame then for Darell Rodgers, Bobby Ross, Gary Moeller, Marty M, and now Mooch....I leave Wayne-O out this list because I actually liked him. |

Agreed owner has to put the right people in place but lets be realistic cannot fire the fords. I say give a blank check to JJ to leave fox we would be in the playoff his first year. |

I know we can't fire the Fords...and that's the problem....We just gave Millen a 5 year extension. Why? |

Come on now, let's not talk crazy. Don't you remember JJ's last NFL game coached? His team scored 7 points and the other team scored 63. The Lions have been there, done that in Philly. |

Did anyone use the tall grass as an excuse yet?? I kept on waiting for that one to come out because the way Joe Buck was talking about it during the pre-game, you'd think they were playing in a cornfield. |
