Does anybody here at DetroitYes have a current Pro sports athlete living next door ? Perhaps a Detroit Piston ? Perhaps a Red Wing ? Perhaps a Detroit Tiger ? Or even perhaps a Detroit Lion ? How about a lady from the Detroit Shocks down your street ? Share/Brag about your Pro sports neighbor. |

I'm not bragging... because sometimes he's a pain in the ass, but Derick Coleman is my next door neighbor (Brush Park). At least he has a nice Bentley... From what I understand, it's his "downtown" home and he has many other homes elsewhere. |

Yup, Mr. Steward does live in Rosedale Park. I run into him quite often at Metro Foodland. Very friendly, down to earth and normal guy. I also see a lot of the boxers he's training running through the neighborhood. They're about the only people you see running in this weather. |

Hey Detroitduo, you forgot me. I'm a professional skier/snowboarder. Darwinism, I think you need to be more specific. There are huge numbers of professional athletes in the Metro area. Just a limited number of famous ones. I just spent last weekend running a clinic to hire 28 amateur snowboarders and turn them into professional snowboarders. We only had to turn three away due to real crappy attitudes. |

Hooha, You delivered a Pizza, did you expect to hit the lottery? How about, "He gave me a tip when he didn't have to, that was cool!" Other than doing what you get paid to do already, did you provide a service that would warrant a tip or you just expected him to throw you some loot. You delivered a Pizza, you didn't cure cancer. By the way, I saw Nick on TV tonight at Childrens Hospital with sick kids making their shitty, chemo filled day just a tad bit better. Besides bitching that your tip wasn't big enough, what was your contribution to society today? |

Lidstrom lives in Northville. His son was in my Safety Town class about two years ago. That little kid was aggressive! Mike Hennemen used to live a few blocks from me. Keith Primeau lived not too far away, too. And a bunch of the Wings used to live in this apartment complex in downtown Northville, that is, until they started having loud parties and got kicked out... |

I'd bet that everyone mentioned lived in Oakland county. It used to be that we could claim Steve Yzerman and Cecil Fielder over in my part of town, but like so many top professionals, professional athlethes are steered far away from Wayne county. I remeber reading the news article last winter when the Tigers brought Troy Percival to town. They wanted to show him some "nice areas" to impress him. So they took him to Oakland county. |

I have an aunt and uncle that live in Bloomfield Twp and have two grade school age boys that play hockey. They were sitting in the stands waiting for their kid's ice time and watching a couple of the hockey dads mess around on the ice (skating VERY well) with their kids. My aunt says "honey, why can't you help the boys out like that?" Uncle replies "because those guys skate for the Red Wings". |

Hopefully Higginson invested his money, because yesterday the Tigers announced they declined to offer him arbitration, so no more money, no more Tiger. I would doubt anyone else would pick him up, unless maybe the Devil Rays. Mitch Melusky tried to make a comeback, but never could, and as far as I know, he is not in baseball anymore. There were always jokes in the Tigers locker room about Melusky sightings because he was always injured and never played except spring training. |

Rip lives off of Woodward south of Hickory Grove. Ben lives in Oakland Township near Adams and Silver Belle. Most of the Pistons live around there. Most of the Lions are in Dearborn. Most of the Wings are in Bloomfield Hills/Birmingham. Osgoods old home was in Bham. Shanahan lives in a beautiful restored home, Larionov is right down the road. Webber just bought a home in GP on Lakeshore. Federov still has a home off of Long Lake and Woodward. Perceval bought a home in Bham. Doug Brown lives in Bloomfield Village. Dumars in Franklin. |

Most people who live in the B'ham/Blfd area run into pro athletes fairly often. My younger sister went to school with one of Isaiah Thomas' sons, and later with Federov's younger brother. I went to high school with Dexter Bussey's son. I used to make lunch for Lions punter Jim Arnold every Saturday at Salvatore Scallopini in Birmingham--he always had two entrees in one sitting. He would bring other guys from the team in sometimes, to load up on pasta carbs before game day. |

Reetz 12, really? Bishop lane is just east of the main Bishop going towards the massive Gatzaros Estate (everyone would recognize this--it's on the lake behind the gates...with all the acreage just before the bend in the road by Cadieux)...now, did he buy one of those rather dinky houses on Bishop Ln. itself, or do you mean that he bought that French Country Estate by Wallace Frost that is lakefront next to the Gatzaros house (I believe they were asking $3.5 mil)? |

Mackinaw you are correct. Mr. Webber did indeed purchase the Julian P. Bowen House. It has a Jefferson address but is actually a lake front property. Its setting with the long driveway provides excellent privacy. It sold for $2.850 million this year. Original asking price was $3.395m. This home was open earlier this year to the public during a Thursday afternoon open house and later it was the subject of an educational tour about architect Wallace Frost. Unfortunately I missed the Frost tour but I did manage to sneak a peak during the open house. According to my records there have been 11 sales over the two million dollar mark this year in the Grosse Pointes. Not bad considering Michigan’s flat real estate market. I understand that the high end market in Oakland County is actually doing far worse. There are two other Frost designed homes presently on the market in Grosse Pointe. Julian P. Bowen House E. Jefferson Avenue sold for $2.850m in 2005 Architect - Wallace Frost 1927 - 8,974 Lake front French Normandy which features an original working elevator, 90 feet of lake front, stone & stucco exterior with large turret, slate roof, third floor has a pub and theater room plus 2 bedrooms and a full bath, finished basement with sauna, full bath and work out room. Architect Frost designed the Governor's Mansion in Lansing. Some of his other local projects include: 15324 Windmill Pointe Drive, GPP Ross W. Judson House 1927 - 9,931 Ross W. Judson was the founder of Continental Motors Corporation. 16632 E. Jefferson, GPP sold for $1.325m in 2002 1926 - 8,088 41 Hendrie , GPF (faces Grosse Pointe Blvd.) Edward B. Caulkins (Bertha A. Bliss) House selling for $1.400m in 2005 1927 - 5,490 42 Hendrie, GPF 1926 - 4,635 242 Lewiston, GPF 1926 - 4,500 selling for $950k in 2005 157 Moross, GPF 1927 - 4,000 Frost also designed approximately 40 smaller residences in Birmingham, Michigan. The recently sold Bowen house is very nice but for a truly spectacular house that is for sale in the very same vicinity see 815 Ellair, GPP. Numerous photos available on line. selling for $5.800m in 2005 1926 - 10,000 Cecil Fielder’s former home at Kenwood Road in Grosse Pointe Farms is on the market for the first time since he sold it in 1995. Just in time for a special Christmas present the price was just recently reduced from $7.900 million to $4.800m. This is by far the largest price reduction I have ever seen on a Michigan home. The original price was unrealistic in this market although it did cost over six million to restore the house after it was almost completely destroyed in a fire while being renovated by the present owner. 109 Kenwood, GPF Lynn McNaughton (Uarda Ashmore) House Architect - George D. An interesting NFL fact is that 3 owners of NFL franchises have their primary residence in Grosse Pointe. William Clay Ford (Martha Firestone) - Detroit Lions - purchased Lions in 1964 for $6 million - Lions franchise valued at $717 million by Forbes magazine, or at least it was before this glorious season. Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. (Mary) - Buffalo Bills - has owned Buffalo Bills since 1960 - only original American Football League owner who has kept his team in its originating city - franchise valued at $637 million by Forbes magazine John Philip Jagger (Mary Beth Bowlen) - own 25% of Denver Broncos - acquired interest through Mary’s family - Patrick Bowlen family - Bowlen family bought team in 1983 for $60 million - franchise valued at $815 million by Forbes magazine |

Shanahan lives up the street in Bham. Last year I saw Sheed at Meijer buying butter on Thanksgiving day. |

Darwinism, Please note that I was incorrect in posting that there are 3 team owners in Grosse Pointe. As of 2004 the number is down to 2. Please see my correction below. The information is gathered from various sources. It is fairly well known that William Clay Ford lives in Grosse Pointe and owns the Lions. Ralph C. Wilson is not nearly as well known. If you google his name you will find a lot of information on the web including his residing in Grosse Pointe. He has lived in Grosse Pointe at least as long as he has owned the Bills and has lived in his present home since 1975. http://www.buffalobills.com/Fr ontOffice-Wilson.jsp http://www.buffalosportshallfa me.com/Class_of_1992/Ralph_Wil son/ralph_wilson.html Here is a link to an article about the 3 NFL owners from Grosse Pointe. Ford's ego stands in way of making smart coach decisions - 01/03/03 two of his close lakefront neighbors, insurance magnate Ralph Wilson Jr. and stockbroker John and spouse Mary Beth (Bowlen) Jagger, own the upstart Buffalo ... www.detnews.com/2003/metro/030 1/04/d01-50823.htm - 24k - Supplemental Result Mackinaw; Thanks. I have continued to lurk, as this is easily the best Detroit web site, but have stopped posting for the most part since I lost my entire Grosse Pointe computer file while researching on Architect Robert Ovens Derrick. Between my frustration in losing this 400 plus page file and being generally very busy with family and work life I have not had the time to post. I have finally bought a digital back up drive and will slowly begin to reconstruct my data base from my old web postings and a hard copy of the information which I have but which unfortunately dates back to 2003. I hope to be able to post more in the coming new year. Correction. It appears that the Jaggers of Grosse Pointe no longer have a direct ownership interest in the Denver Broncos. The team appears now to be owned solely by Mary Beth Jagger’s brother, Pat Bowlen. In trying to update my information on the Broncos I read that Edgar Kaiser, Jr. (the individual from whom the team was purchased in 1983) had sued Patrick Dennis Bowlen over ownership of the Denver Broncos. In 1999 famed quarterback John Elway was offered a 20% interest in the team. Kaiser has alleged that he was denied his option of first refusal to purchase back interest in the franchise. According to Kaiser in 2004 Pat acquired his (Mary Beth Jagger) sister’s 25% interest in the team as well as the 25% interest of his brother, William. While I am correcting my mistakes on this topic here is another correction. A while back I had posted about the Dodge Place subdivision and the former home of Steve Yzerman. I listed the address as having been 19 (his sweater number) when in fact the correct address is 8 Dodge Place. 8 Dodge Place Grosse Pointe sold for $925k in 1999, 1989 - 3,869 sold for $558k in 1989 [1989-1999 Stephen G. “Stevie” Yzerman (Lisa) - Pro Hockey player/Detroit Red Wings - captain of Stanley Cup champion teams in 1996-97, 1997-98, 2001-02 |

"Where the H is Northville"?! Northville is Seven Mile west of 275. I worked at the NBD Bank on Seven Mile west of the mental facility. Nick Lidstrom used to come in there a lot and wire money home when he was building a house. This was before they won the first cup. I grew up in Southfield and Bob Lanier lived next to one of my friends when I was in the 1st grade. South of 9 mile and east of Evergreen. I worked at Little Caesars on Orchard Lake N of Long Lake in 1991. Bill Laimbeer used to order pizzas under the name Smith and pick them up himself. We were under orders not to do anything but ring his order and thank him or else he would stop coming. Tommy Hearns lived down the street from friends of mine. At the end of a long dirt road W of Evergreen and south of the Lodge. Isaiah Thomas' first house was in Southfield in that subdivision W of Southfield Road, E of the Lodge and N of that big Ameritech facility. Vinnie Johnson lived in Southfield and he used to jog around the Southfield High School track. |

I can tell you for 100% certainty that all the "suedes" and Legace on the Red Wings live in Novi (not Northville) and Nik Lidstrom is about about 1 mile down the road from my house in Novi. Here's a link about a recent article in the press with a quote to confirm. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=/20051221/SPO RTS05/512210450/1053/SPORTS ""All the Swedes live in Novi -- which, basically, is all the Swedes and me -- and I didn't get invited over," Legace said. "I thought I was an honorary Swede. So I'm kind of bitter at the Swedes. Swedish questions are a little touchy." You can also find out this information on them on the City of Novi's website.
