I found the site for Bill Bonds.
There are some clips that will bring back memories of this great newsman. When you see his interviews and commentaries, you will quickly understand why some consider him the king of Detroit TV.
I had the privilege of working with Bill in the early 80’s. What always amazed me was his voracious need for news. He read at least 5 newspapers a day. He would study his scripts and fine tune them. His delivery was such that you knew exactly what he thought of the story. Fair, yes. Unbiased, well that’s for you to decide.

Tonight, December 10, 2005 at 7PM on WWJ TV CH62, Bill will be hosting a tribute to John Dingell. It is at the same time as the Emery King special on WDIV. The battle of the giants continues.

Watching the John Lennon clip was very interesting.

The Gun commentary at the end still rings true a quarter century later.

I wish Bill would get back on TV news in Detroit. We need someone like him so badly. He would have been great during the elections.

Can he even go back to news reporting now that he's done so many commerical endorsement deals? I thought I read somewhere that once you've done stuff like that you can't be considered an objective newsperson anymore. I guess Mort Crim is in the same boat.

I like the Classic rock MP3 sample. HD97.9! WOW! HD Radio!

Cool! I wouldn't mind him being a DJ or something. He would sound good on Live 97.1 or something. It would be funny to hear what kind of stuff he would say to some of those stupid callers they get.

Biil Bonds was just as good as Peter Jennings, Sam Donaldson, tom Browkaw etc. He was also good friends with these reporters. Bill had the opportunity to work Primetime but preferred tpo stay close to hs family.

I remember when Bill did the interview on Oprah. Very good interview. I wonder what she say if she saw that clip now.

Makes me wonder what happened to his peers from that era.

John Kelly & Marilyn Turner, Al Ackerman, Jac LeGoff, Joe Glover, Larry Adderly, Dave Diles, etc.

Great clips. I was only 14 when Bonds left the anchor desk for good (summer '94) But my mom always had him turned on for the 5 PM news, so he was a constant presence when I was a kid.

Perhaps moreso than any sitcom, vintage news broadcasts are what I value most when buying DVDs or looking for video downloads. But they aren't easy to come by!

Did anyone else have problems w/ the images (except for the Escape...Apes clip) being stretched too wide? To "fix" that, I squeezed in my monitor image until the "circle 7" logo looked close enough to a perfect circle.

Great website! I love the Orin Hatch interview..that is pure Bill Bonds. Not to be outdone of course were his commentaries. He said it like most people thought, unlike most people he wasn't afraid to say it.

Was never really a fan of Bonds but after watching the commentary about the death of John Lennon that you posted pslip I need to rethink.
