Ok, so it's an election year and Jeffnier wants/needs Wayne county, specifically the Detroit vote. So she doesn't want to bring in a receiver until after the election. Plus, I think the mayor of a city that is Bankrupt has a year to work out the problems so she could make that decision after the election.
Well tonight I heard a really interesting idea that sounded pretty good. What if KK went to Jennifer and asked if he could be the receiver? This way she doesn't take a hit politically and KK can could solidify his 2nd term. He'd be able to negotiate from a much stronger position. KK does have some talented people around him that could make some good decicions if they had a chance to really make some changes. What do you think? It seemed liked the 'best' way to go into receivership.

PA 72 bars elected or appointed officials and employees from serving as an emergency financial manager of their municipality for 5 years after their term/employment ends.

Make it Kwame Kilpatrick. The citizens will love it - as it won't be seen the state taking over. It will give him the ability to renegotiate contracts with the unions (remember they did not support him overall) and he will have the ability to get the concessions he needs. Kilpatrick has always been tough on union issues. This would be a solution that the citizens would like and would be popular with the state as the KK administration will be more cooperative in an election year where Granholm may need Detroit support. She does not want Detroit to stay at home next year!

My 5 dollars is on either Ed Kurtz who was the receiver of Flint. (Unlikely though because he was appointed by Engler)
or
Dennis Archer

very long shot,
Freeman Hendrix (although it would be fun to watch)
Understand that whoever gets the apppointment will have absolute control over every penny that is spent.
In Flint, Kurtz moved into the mayors physical office, gave the Mayor a cubicle.

Hardly a fan of Engler, and I don't know anything else about this Kurtz guy, but imagine Kwame in a cubicle...

I would lmao off if Hendrix were appointed as receiver. Anyone else think Joe Harris would be a viable choice? I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head who knows the city's bureacracy as well as he does.

I can picture Mayor Kilpatrick in a cubicle.

Of course, he would try to have spinners on it and some fuzzy dice hanging from somewhere, but I can see him working out of a cubicle.

In Flint, the EFM (emergency financial manager) cut the city council wages down to a fraction of what it was. As soon as the city was out of receivership the council voted to get back their lost wages. They promptly issued themselves checks in the neighborhood of 25K each. (Only 2 members refused the checks.) The new mayor took them to court and the court made them return the money.
I can't wait to see what the EFM does with the KKs security detail and the mansion.

What if Granholm appoints Freeman Hendrix to be the next reciever? Then Detroit will have a new mayor who will bring suburban privatization to mostly Detroit black ghettohoods. THE WHITE FOLKS ARE A COMMING BACK TO DETROIT. If they can't get Hendrix in the mayor seat, maybe recievership will.

So ILD's brilliant suggestion is ...

quote:

Make it Kwame Kilpatrick.

And it wonders why people laugh at it on this forum.

I like Joe Harris, but I don't think he should be the EFM, (not sure he carries a big enough club or even wants to) but he SHOULD be a very senior advisor / deputy.

Jeff - Hahaha you are funny. Nice post.

I can tell you Granholm won't appoint Hendrix too politically charged. Maybe she will appoint an unknown outsider...probably the best solution.

Danny: I'm amazed that you're able to get an internet connection inside that cave you've been living in - and yet haven't noticed who it was that proposed transfering the Detroit Zoo and Historical Museum.

Or who it was that stood up at a budget forum at the Northwest Activities Center last February and proposed selling the Public Lighting Department.

Step out into the sunlight some time. It's not as scary as you think.

I firmly believe something on the order of OCP will be in control of Detroit and other downtrodden cities in the next 10-20 years.

I prefer the ED-209 over the Robocop model.

I really was hoping to be able to track down a Robocop costume for Super Bowl weekend. My search came up empty...
