My view from my Parking spot for Tigers Games will never be the same....maybe soon it will become a bigger parking lot.

I see a lot of words on the other thread, but no one appears to be saying much of anything. ;-)

Probably clean up for the super bowl. I'd be really surprised if this building was being prepped for renovation. Hopefully, this is a result of stepped up enforcement of blight ordinances.

I personally think it looks better with the painted windows.

Like I mentioned on the Fine Arts/Adams Theatre thread.... it will be difficult for Ilitch to show off his entertainment empire to Superbowl millionaires/billionaires if it is interspersed with his "untouched" slumlord collection.

When they remodeled the UA back in the 30's or 40's, they took off the old ornate veneer of bricks/terra cotta, and put up a "modern" veneer. It is that slipshod modern veneer that has been peeling away for the last 25 years.

Have to agree that those windows were great to look at. It had to be one of the largest renegade public artworks on an abandoned building in the world (another Cool Cities marketing claim Detroit can have). They should have taken the windows out and saved the artwork instead of scraping it off. But off course that would require you to want to save the building and actually care about art...

At least they are not removing the windows. That is their normal modus operendi.
Maybe there is hope for the building.

Just looking at this building has me thinking..."what a grand building!!"

What would you do with this building if it were given to you???

I would buy a corn stove or two....
I liked the painted windows too. I suspect that the ambitious person who painted them will be back...

"What would you do with this building if it were given to you???"

Nothing, since I don't have any money. But if I had $100 million, I'd renovate it.
