Apparently, the elected officials from Detroit will not rest and will use all Power of Lemmons until every shred of John C. Lodge is erased from Detroit.

http://www.legislature.mi.gov/ mileg.asp?page=getobject&objna me=2005-HB-5517&relation=next

Highways; name; renaming of the "John C. Lodge Freeway" to the "Coleman A. Young Freeway"; provide for.

"HIGHWAY M-10 IN WAYNE 1 COUNTY BEGINNING AT THE INTERSECTION OF MICHIGAN AVENUE AND M-10 AND CONTINUING EAST TO THE END OF HIGHWAY M-10 IN WAYNE COUNTY SHALL BE KNOWN AS THE "COLEMAN A. YOUNG FREEWAY".

Maybe that is his attempt at job creation. Someone has to put up all those new signs.

What a waste of time and money.

Rosa Parks didn't fly, so now it's gotta be Coleman Young. Detroit's trying to be like other major cities that re-name their freeways every 10 miles or so.

This is really annoying...STOP RENAMING STREETS & ROADS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN NAMED AFTER SOMEONE.

Rename another stretch of highway that doesn't already have a name. Let's not loose our history. This only sets up a precedence to keep changing generation after generation. In 2045 we'll be renaming the coleman a young freeway the "Martha Reeves Super Electric Expressway."

Q: What's the quickest way out of town?

A: Take the Coleman A. Young Freeway until you hit Eight Mile Road.

I think we should re-name Woodward "Kwame". 94 should be officially, "the nine-fo."

Aside from the fact that this idea is a real waste of time and money, and the fact that I think it's shameful to wipe away something so ingrained in Detroit's collective image, I do see a compelling conection between Coleman A. Young and a freeway leading straight into the heart of Northwestern subrban sprawl. Why don't we just rename the thing the "The Exodus Expressway"..?

But, Restore, you are dead on about the nine fo.

And while we're at it, with all this renaming stuff, why not change the name of the Davison? Make that the "CAY". It's old, out-dated, small, and cuts right through the heart of Detroit... seems much more appropriate to me.

CAY Rec Center
CAY Municipal Center
Let's, at least, get someone help close the budget by paying to rename stuff (if we must foolishly erase history). The legislature should be working to revive the economy so that new schitt can be named after someone instead of stripping away past credit. Don't we usually call taking credit for what is rightfully someone else's (and calling it as your own) criminal conversion, i.e. stealing?

China did it with Peking, lets watch the bone head legislators try to change Detoit's name to Young-Parks.

No China really didn't change the name, they changed the English language spelling (and some pronounciations of Chinese words). They went from the Wade-Giles system before the Red Revolution, to the new communist one.

Examples:
Mao Zedong = Mao Tse Tong
Beijing = Peiping = Peking

Its amazing how it seems that they have to name and rename after all of these "great" poeple. Coleman has enough things named after him. Let's get on with more important things in life. Like the money spent on all of this renaming, let's sent THAT money to the city to help keep The CAY community/rec center open. Or to make the CAY airport a money making venture.

I don't understand why these politician can't see that there are some cities that could use some cash sent their way.

Change all freeway names that whites use to enter and leave Detroit.Since white folks don't give a damn about nobody but themselves.Soon you suburbanites just might get your wishes, especially if Hendrix win the recount, and if that was to happen be ready to enter a City that will be in a civil disorder warzone.I have decided to act the way you whites what me to act, and now I am inviting you to post your negetive comments to me,and believe me I will be firing back. However this DO NOT APPLY to some of you,and the ones that it applies to know who you are,and if the shoe fits wear it.

What's with the white/black drama William? Just because someone doesn't support renaming everything for CAY, doesn't make them racist or express a desire to control Detroit.

Why do you think KK wants to close down the Historical Museum? Didn't you know there is no Detroit history before Coleman Young was elected and took that power from the corrupt white folk?

Wow! So a couple of peopel "turned" you into a racist? Seems that you probably already were and just used these folks as the excuse. You have no one to blame but yourself for those views of others.
