Tonight, after dinner at Oslo and skating at CM, a few friends and I walked down Monroe in hopes of finding something for dessert. We pass the wonderful scaffolding on the corner of Monroe and Farmer and run into this life-sized electric Santa, who is singing Christmas carols. Behind Santa was Happy Cream, with signs advertising ice cream and sandwiches. We walked inside and were greeted by very very friendly staff, who clearly were proud of the place. We got this upside down pineapple cake ice cream that was one of the most unique and delicious flavors I've tasted.

Where the heck did this place come from? It's right next to Sizzle 'n Spice. I highly recommend it though.

They opened up in the summer I think, and have had trouble competing with Ben and Jerrys

Great staff. So friendly that it makes you feel bad that you can't go in everyday.

I hope they make a go of it

Never heard of it. I have a big sweet tooth, so it sounds like I've got to check it out.

Got some chicken gumbo soup there the other day... pretty tasty. It was cold out and I was looking for some hot food. (Too cold for ice cream!)

They were extremely friendly... I feel bad that they opened around the same time as Ben & Jerry's, that may make it tougher for them. But I'll be back.

That's kind of an unfortunate name, isn't it?

Happy Cream sounds like the kind of place Manrooter would frequent...

Spartacus, I've really been holding back posting that exact same question since this thread was started... Happy Cream just makes you smile when you read it, but in a devious and unnerving way...

I think of it as a place where John Waters w/ Devine would eat.

OK, went to this place yesterday during my strolling day of shopping downtown.

WOW!

I had a Dintymoore sandwich that was amazing. The owner let me sample their Chicken Gumbo which was fantastic and I also sampled the Pineapple-upsidedown cake ice cream and Banana pudding ice cream. This place it an absolute hidden treasure. GO THERE!

Personally, I think the name is creative and fun. Much better than Detroit breakfast grill house or whatever the hell the name is. And when their food is so good, you HAVE to go there. :-)
