"Ilitch is working on projects for some of the family's vacant buildings and land, Cullen said, adding: "We have some exciting things to announce" early next year." Hmmmnnn... Don't the Ilitch's own a few buildings on Park near the Town Pump and Centaur? If they do anything with those, that will really set that corridor off. |

Don't the Ilithes own the Detroit Building behind the Fox? That building is awesome and screaming to be restored. With downtown and midtown's residential real estate boom showing no signs of abating, I'm not surprised the Ilitches are jumping on board, (well maybe a little surprised, but thankful it will finally happen). |

Isn't past tense "snuck"? |

AiW, ha! but the more curious use of language imo is in this quote:The building, which is abandoned, is owned by the Ilitch family, whose holdings include the Tigers, Red Wings, Fox Theatre and Little Caesars." Yay Detroit, where prominent propertiy owners can somehow abandon major properties yet still retain ownership! |

The artists seem to have moved to the abandoned Fisher Body Bldg. on Fort Street/Livernois. |

The Illich's got another pass. There would not be anybody sneaking in if it was properly secured and taken care of. |

"sneaked" is the preferred usage. "Snuck" is simply acceptable. |

Actually, "snuck" smacks of snobbery since English prefers regular verbs (root + -ed ending) as a rule. |

Well, snobbery as in pronouncing "Bucket," "Boo-kay." |

I think the guy who went to the genteel, blue blooded, Virginia gentleman's univeristy should be able to discuss elitist snobbery if he so desires... |

Its curious that the article did not mention other holding of the Illich clan, such as the Madison-Lenox or the GAR building. |

Ilitch Holdings does not own the GAR. Also, let's see what direction Ilitch Holdings goes in now that it's being headed up by Atanas. I have a feeling you could be seeing some positive movement on several of their properties. |

Yes it is spelled B-U-C-K-E-T "Boo-kay"... what else could one expect from the "Candlelight Supper Queen" of British Comedy... As for the United Artists Building being on the COVER of the fall edition of PRESERVATION TRUST magazine.... I love it!!! Just another way for the National Trust to show the Ilitch's that they may have gotten away with the demolition of the ML, but they will pay for that misstep.... and in a way that the Ilitch's cannot sue them over it. They ignored the National Trust's president's (Richard Moe) request for a meeting over the ML rehab. Looks like the National Trust is teaching the Ilitch's a thing or two about historic preservation via a national spotlight. And now, just maybe, the Ilitch's finally "get it". Hopefully Atanis Ilitch, the creative Ilitch, will get some buildings restored. But they can forget about getting any more preservation awards from either the National Trust or the Theatre Historical Society. |

If the Ilitch's announce some major project, and I'm drinking my morning coffee when I read about it, I hope its in a beaker and not my Royal Doulton with the hand-painted periwinkles on it. I be crushed if I broke a piece of that. |

LOL.... Sknutson.... I too would have a similar reaction to an Ilitch restoration announcement.... Only I hope to keep the coffee stains off the "Grade 1 Axminster" carpet, the 3 piece suite (an exact replica of the one at Sandringham House), and the "Herringbone woodblock with its' holiday polish".... and for God's sake don't brush up against those walls!!! But we're not one to make a fuss, no matter how badly it marks or stains! I only hope I can take the social strain of such an Ilitch announcement..... |
