Do you guys think that downtown would support a dueling piano bar. I think that the bottom floor of a renovated Broderick Tower would be perfect. |

No? Are you kidding me? I think it would be a huge hit down here. Indy used to have one on the top floor of the circle center mall. It closed up while I was down there, though not for lack of business. I think the two guys they had quit and they changed the format. It was packed shoulder to shoulder every weekend. |

Same goes in Cleveland (Howl at the Moon). Always packed, always fun. Sold beers (technically pitchers) in those large plastic bottles that you can buy at stores as coin banks. Over 60 ounces of fun. |

We have one of those here in Kalamazoo... I don't like it. It seems like everything they play is a rendition of the Charlie Brown theme. |

Yes, it's kind of dorky, but it would be good in terms of diversifying the attractions and the crowds downtown. |

Sounds tacky and horrible to me. It would fit right in out in Shelby Township, however. ***edit*** That sounded excessively mean, sorry about that. But this idea seems like one of those things that ends up in a "marketplace" idea (like Trapper's Alley was) rather than in one of the most prominent spots in the downtown area. I'm down for actual dueling....as in Aaron Burr type action. Have a run in with a co-worker.....make a reservation at the dueling bar and settle your grievances like 18th century gentlemen. |

I'm with you Cushkid - I used to frequent Jake Ivory's when I lived in Boston. (dueling piano bar behind Fenway Park) It was always full, and always a good time... |

A dueling piano bar would probably draw the same sort of crowd as a comedy joint or titty or dicky bar. It's a niche-act but can be fun if you're in the right sort of mood. |

I have always thought of opening up a nice lounge with overstuffed leather couches with nice coffee tables, a couple of fireplaces, a piano for some smooth jazz/cabaret style music while offering nice hors d'ordeuvers. A real classy place. The problem is that Windsor is a pasta and steak place (with little class unfortunately). Would something like that go over well in Detroit? I think a dueling piano bar could do well with the right clientele and the right music. |

Isn't there a piano place on Erie Street that is the same idea you mention. I believe it it near Spago. |

I know which place you are talking about but it is only a portion of the restaurant, but for the life of me I can't remember the name. I would like the whole thing to be like that without a "dining area". I'm just not sure it would fly in this city. Something just a little more swanky with a small area off to the side where people could dance with their loved onces. |

There's a dueling piano bar in Pontiac that seems to do well. I have not been there in a few years, but it was "J's Key Club" or something like that. Great place to go with a big group especially after a few drinks. |

The one in Pontiac is called JD’s Key Club. It is great fun and a goldmine as far as I am concerned. It is jammed packed even on Tuesday nights. If you have never been to one, then you wouldn’t know. They are fun, and no, they aren’t for Shelby Township people. Put one right near Comerica and I guarantee it will easily be one of the top spots. Then you will get those nine people who piss and moan about even remotely commercial. If it brings people into the era to spend their money, then so be it. If you are over 25, it probably wont be your type of spot though. |

Hmmm, ditto on the bachellorette (sp?) parties. We've got 3 or 4 of those stinking piano bars in MPLS, definitely played out in this market. |

There's also a dueling piano bar in Ypsilanti, Pub 13. Anybody ever been there? I tried to go once, but apparently they reserve damn near every table, so we ended up going to the sports bar on the 2nd floor. |

Definately a haven for the soon-to-be wed. A dueling piano bar would be great, and they typically play requests so the music is as good as the people in the room. If you don't like what they are playing, then give them a bigger tip to get to your music. |

'Course, if you have Bob Seeley playing piano, a second pianist is not necessary. |
