Theres an artist group that is painting abandoned blown out buildings with a paint called "Tiggerific Orange" sold by HomeDepot. I saw a report on I think WDIV yesterday that showed their latest structure - although the report was seriously short on facts and info. Heres the website data on the group: http://www.thedetroiter.com/no v05/disneydemolition.html This is an artist statement that The Detroiter recieved, they are not the group (before you get out the pitchforks and torches) The most recent one I have seen is along the M8/Davison on the Highlandpark side, in the abandoned subdivsion there thats blocked off by concrete barriers. |

I've seen the one that was off 75 and 6 mile it is near my house, and I saw the ones off the Davison.. I though it was the city marking the buildings, lol. The one off 75 and 6 mile was torn down shortly after it was painted. |

quote:These buildings aren't scenery. Don't look through or around them. Take action. Pick up a roller. Pick up a brush. Apply orange.
Lot's of other positive ways to take action. I understand the point they are making but cleaning garbage in that community or volunteering at another cause would probably go a lot further. |

Since Judas Granholm promised monies to demolish 250 structures in Highland Park including the HolidayInn - and then took that money back and only demolished the Inn, I would say this demonstration is right on the mark and much needed. Nobody is going to give a damn if some guys are out in a field of abandoned houses in Highland Park picking up some trash. Embarrassing a dishonest and corrupt government, at times, is indeed the most effective way to spotlight such a problem. Now, the serial arsonist who decided to BURN these abandoned HP structures is out of line. I think the orange painters are much more constructive than lighting shit afire. So the question is, if a guy picks up garabge in a field and nobody is around to notice, does it make a sound ? Will it impact the problem and spark action ? As far as the hundreds of abandoned buildings in HP, I say no. |

As long as they stick with buildings that are unsalvagable I really see no problem with this. At worst they won't be shot at during deer season. lol. |

I was not aware of Granholm's actions in HP. I agree that this is much more productive than the arsonists but I am guessing, and I may be wrong, that the arsonists were not looking to make a political statement. |

Some people use polka dots and shoes, others use solid orange paint. I'll take polka dots over this. At least the polka dots make the structure more pleasant to look at. |

"Some people use polka dots and shoes, others use solid orange paint. I'll take polka dots over this. At least the polka dots make the structure more pleasant to look at." Isn't the point of it NOT to make it look pleasant therefore the city and people can't ignore it?? |

Agreed, Smogboy. Its to draw attention to things that should NOT be comfortable to see everyday. None of us would want to live next to these things. |

Pleasant to look at? My 3-year-old niece would certainly love the color of these houses. Anything that's orange is beautiful as far as she is concerned. At any rate, the houses probably look better painted orange than they did before the DDD got to them, although I personally prefer the polka dots. |
