Detroit seems to have a long tradition of painting windows, A 1940s shot of Gratiot and Library. WSU |

So this building stood where there is currently a parking lot, right? Across the street east of the DPL Skillman Branch and north of the Cadillac Center DPM station/Compuware Parking Garage? |

(continuing the hijacking of my own thread....) Right-o!! If you look up the street, you can see the Breitmeyer Building that still stands on the east side of Broadway at Gratiot. Thanks! Now back to the UA windows and the new site at the Fisher Guide building on Fort at Livernois!!! (Message edited by Kathleen on January 08, 2006) (Message edited by Kathleen on January 08, 2006) |

Its unfortunate that the writer of the fish-wraps article didn't dig deeper into the real issue of window painting inside of these buildings, the fact that the buildings have been ABANDONDED and allowed to decay & rot. Without the abandonded building lords (i.e. Ill-itch), these "vandals" would have to find other outlets for their work. I find this window painting neither distasteful or vandalous. The real vandals are the building owners. |
