Just thought you might be interested to know that on last night's federal party leader's debate, Prime Minister Martin managed to get in a dig at Detroit, reiterating once again the tired stereotypes and perceptions that plague the Motor City.

While speaking about the recent spate of gun violence to hit Toronto and the need for further gun control, Martin said "Toronto is not Detroit....Vancouver is not South Central Los Angeles". In fact, Martin is now proposing a complete ban on handguns.

Not as angry as I should be cause he does have a point.. not about just Detroit, but it sounds like against the States. Our gun control laws are seriously out of whack, and while he can change the law without much interference from fellow members, our commander-in-chief won't consider such a thing. It's in the constitution, you know.

It may be true, but trying to make yourself feel better by comparing your own demons to the demons of others does not accomplish anything other than make excuses.

I thought Canada already had a complete ban on handguns, with the only exceptions being use by the military and law enforcement.

Hand guns are only restricted in Canada. To learn more, follow the link:

The PM should refrain from Detroit bashing, having grown up in Windsor-Essex. He was a Tigers fan as a child, so maybe that explains his frustration with Detroit....

Explain to me again how a handgun ban takes guns out of the hands of criminals?

Oh yea, it doesn't. Just the same as drug bans really keep people from using drugs....

sj, Paul Martin does the blame game very well. Diverting ones attnetion to the real problem is a spin doctors trick and the Liberals are masters at it.
