I am quite impressed with the proposed changes to the Ferry Street landscape. There will be 48 custom bilt brownstones, all built within the "old style Detroit" fashion. I realize I am largely paraphrasing the article but I believe this will go tremendously with the Inn on Ferry street and create an amazing atmosphere. Here is the link to the article: http://www.modeldmedia.com/dev elopmentnews/centurion.aspx I will try to get pictures of the developments up here as soon as they are done with phase one as they say they will by February. From the Centurion site it looks as though they will be incorpating a lot of classic design elements which are quite impressive. http://www.centurionplace.com/ index.html |

A model ready in febuary huh? They were still putting up the 1st floor walls as of this past weekend... looks like it'll be a nice fit with the older buildings in the area (Message edited by gravitymachine on January 10, 2006) |

This is cool, renderings look nice and historically contextual, which will clearly excite many posters here. 38 more huh? I wonder if they will be in the same vicinity and in the same general concept? Not to knock development but builders sure know how to build suburbs in the city. Nothing says suburb like 48 units of the same building style(s). I love that the old east side of Woodward is coming alive again, don't get me wrong. But you have to admit, it kind of is one "development" after another. I am sure it will do well, that kind of thing has a lot of appeal for a lot of people. |

A rather ambitious price range, actually. Might be a while before they make the first 10 unit sales in order to begin phase 2. |

Glad to hear this is happening. With all the Ford money that the CCS has been getting, I was a little worried about them expanding one street northward onto Ferry Ave. (parking etc.). I think that with all the infill on Ferry Ave., it is a historic preservation success story. I almost wish they would tear down the Merrill-Palmer Istitute, and replace it with more historic style housing. 2 historic mansions were razed in order to put up the institute, right next to the historic Charles Lang Freer house. Ferry Ave. is quickly becoming the 1890's equivalent to the historic 1870's West Canfield district. |

DialH – The second phase will be a block away on Frederick between St. Antoine and Beaubien. At the risk of thread highjacking, I’ve got a question about this neighborhood for you knowledgeable forumers. During a tour of Hitsville a few years ago, we were told that Berry Gordy’s father had a grocery on the corner of Frederick and St. Antoine. Anyone know exactly where it was? |

"The corner of Frederick and St. Antoine" isn't specific enough for you? |

Nope – not specific enough. Could be the northwest corner, where the new condos will go. Could be to the southwest, where the Lester Morgan townhouses are. Could be to the southeast, where Bethel AME Church is. Could be to the northeast, where the Art Center(?) townhouses are. Could be we were given bad information, or that I have poor memory. |

It's "pwned," Sharmaal. Get it right. And anyone who can describe the four corners of Frederick & St. Antoine with so much detail gets props from me. |

Jeff, "clowned" is a completely appropriate substitute for "pwned." When translating from black-to-white or white-to-black venacular they all turn out to be the same thing. Did I do that? Did I really just do that? (Message edited by lmichigan on January 12, 2006) |

I noticed this restoration on Ferry at John R on my Tuesday driveabout. Will this become part of the Inn on Ferry or continue as a museum? |

I agree with you 100% DH4H.... shame on them for trying to build the same old historic looking townhouses they are building in downtown Birmingham! |

Seriously, this is one of the projects no one should be complaining about. It is quite a few steps above Woodward Place, and probably one of the better-looking projects going up in the city. |

Lowell, I think that house is the future home of an architecture firm. http://www.modeldmedia.com/dev elopmentnews/entarchitects.asp x |

For several decades the house on the SW corner of Ferry and John R was home to Your Heritage House which was founded by Josephine Harreld Love over 30 years ago. It was a magical place for children of all backgrounds to explore the wonderful world of art. music, and all things cultural. Children could take art and music classes, open trunks of old clothing and try on Victorian hats and dresses, and simply explore mansion's the many rooms and pretend and imagine a grander, more enriched life that could be their's. Unfortunately, Engler's cut-backs in funding for the arts curtailed her programing in her final years. Mrs. Love was a true Detroit aristocrat. She was a tireless promoter of the Arts. She made a difference in the lives of many Detroiters. I know that I am a better person for having known her. |

I don't think there will be expansions of the Inn on Ferry Street anytime soon, since apparently it's not doing very well. Of course they hardly market it at all. |

Dialh- I think the Inns on Ferry have been used quite a bit despite them not being marketed & touted as aggressively as we'd all like to see them. I know a lot of the B&B websites point to them quite a bit and a lot of visiting lecturers to WSU & CCS use them. http://www.hotelsuperportal.co m/Index-53240.html_Oskin679928 http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hote l-191501950-detroit_hotels-i;_ylc=X3oDMTFyaTd0amlhBF9TAzk2 ODIzNzA0BGsDYmVkIGJyZWFrZmFzdH MgaW4gRGV0cm9pdARzZWMDc2VtdGcE c2xrA3NlbXRn I'm still hopeful for them. They really add a nice touch to the area and are great for the universities. |

Hmmm...maybe someone at the DIA has a stink out for the Inns on Ferry. Or is it that seasonal for the Inns?? I hope they're not in such dire straits that they'd close. I just hope it's a lull in their bookings for the season and it'll pick up soon. |
