Hi Gmich99 - It's Ndavies, don't take it personally. It's his big pet peeve and he ALWAYS has to point it out. He's a grumpybritches. 'Course, you don't seem too friendly either, come to think of it. You guys might just get along. |

It's a bitch because then you have 5 or 6 threads all with the same people bitching about the same shit. It's much easier to follow if everything is in one place. We now have 4 active threads on this very subject. It just seems a little absurd to me. Is it really too much to ask for to keep the same content in one thread. P.S. gmich99, Nice comeback So original. (Message edited by ndavies on January 12, 2006) |

I don't mind repetitive threads as long as they are clearly titled. Sort of like this one. Even before I clicked on it, I knew what the initial topic would be about. If I didn't want to read another thread about the new letters on the building, I could have easily skipped over it and not clicked on it. But that's just me. |

We don't want this thread to be an example of the way things work among Detroiters, (what with potential visitors for upcoming events scanning our pages)...quick to jump, on edge, vulgar...Lowell unless we can get back on topic let's can this. Gmich just saw the same thing Ndavies did and got excited, and perhaps doesn't have the time to check other threads. Then after a not so kind response, he came up with an even worse riposte. |

I agree with HSteve, at least this thread is clearly labled. |

Pathetic. Half this forum is filled with pet peeve-like posts. Perhaps you forgot and spelled a word incorrectly, perhaps you didn't write "Dear hon." when addressing a representative which draws a whole stream of postings from the full-time professional posters. Pet peeve responses are deserving of vulger responses even if the vulgarity here doesn't have a place. A F O X Tower sign. That would put a impact for the Super Bowl XL. Illitch wants those revenue money in his pockets. |

just to ad my .02, this is the first I have heard of this. I don't have the time to read every thread all the time. I tend to like the threads where 4 subjects aren't scattered throughout. Just because there is an old car factories thread, doesn't mean someone shouldn't be able to start a thread asking a question about the First Ford plant or what have you. If anything, this should be a lesson in Thread labeling. yada yada Illitch is NOT a good title to discuss what is happening at the Fox Theater. |

Just wanted to say WHO CARES if there is two or more threads on one subject. The forum is for posting stuff. One does not have to read all threads before one posts. Its people posting that makes the forums go round. Really, if you dont like it dont read the thread, and if you do read the thread and still dont like it just shut up about it. Another forum police. I bet the guy doesent even run the forum. You would think he's the boss or something. What a dick is all that comes to mind when I read something like that. Just my opinion so I felt like ranting. I hate these forum police that think they are in charge. If you are the moderator then fine. If not, stop trying to speak for him. |

Getting back onto the subject.... While tall and impressive, the Fox rooftop sign was no match for that of the Michigan Theatre on top of the Michigan Building. Where's Hornwrecker when you need a pic.... Even the original vertical marquee of the Michigan was more impressive than the original Fox vertical marquee. The original Fox marquee spelled out "F O X - T H E A T R E" (no dash) in tall letters, whereas the current one only spells out "F O X" in very tall letters. Theatre Historian (and author of "AMERICAN PICTURE PALACES") David Naylor states in that book "Rising a full 10 stories along the side of the Michigan Theatre in Detroit (1926) this must have been the most awesome vertical marquee ever built." |

Sorry, I was getting drunk and searching the net for risque photos of some 1920s Hootchie girls. The closest I have handy is this night shot of Bagley from the last century.

I wish I could find that photo in color, or at least know what color to PS into the neon to bring back to what it would have looked like. Probably a lot of orange and red. I also wish I could drop down into the basement of the Tuller, to visit the Golden Harp. Sure could use a draft Guiness about now {and let Chuck give me another tour of the place.} Good times. |

Thanks Hornwrecker. First photo I've seen of the original Tuller/Golden Harp bar. There seemed to be solid oak wood everywhere in that place. Did valet parking there the first couple nights they reopened. Had to be '82 or '83. Glad to have caught that one. |
