According to the good folks at model D, The Woodward restaurant in the Compuware building will open on January 23. It seems like this one has been in the works for a very long time.

Does anyone know when Proof is opening?

I have seen sporadic activity in Proof. The inside looks like it's ready to go and I have seen people drinking in it while driving by. But there hasn't been the normal amount of bar foot traffic.

Also, I knocked on the CVS door yesterday and the guy inside said it would be opening up on Jan. 29. That place looks like it is ready to go. There's merchandise on the shelves in there.

We thought they were open on the 7th, but it was a private party. I think they told someone in our group that they were aiming for the 21st.

I forced them to turn it, but they (sensibly) left the music on in the place so I got no sound from the GG. It was still good.

Oh man! I like this news! Glad they could be open before the superbowl! Get a little extra cash to get them going after months of paying rent with no income.

WELL, I'm glad you asked.

Actually it wasn't packed, but had a decent number of people move through during the time we were there. It *was* a Monday, after all.

Aesthetically, it's nice. I had to go inside to see if they had actual Fritz Hansen "Series Seven" barstools (knockoffs, but that's got to be expected). It's brighter than I expected it would be, which was nice. Two great lounging areas. I give the interior an 8/10, which would be a 9 if they didn't use a drop ceiling in part of the space (although I have recently been made aware that sometimes that is unavoidable). And it's cool sitting on that corner, looking out onto Woodward or GCP.

Drinks were good and reasonably priced. No complaints there. Service at the bar was excellent.

My little spontaneous group (I run into way too many people I know at bars) tried a few of the tapas. I had a cuban sandwich that was really good. It needed 30 more seconds on the press which I meant to tell them (so if you are reading ... 30 more seconds to get all the meat warm please.) (Get the meat warm, huh huh).

We also tried the quesadilla (which is misspelled on the menu IIRC), antipasto skewers and a little melon/prosciutto canape. It was all very good. Amazing? Not quite. But lots better than your standard barfare. I'd like to try it a few more times as they ramp up before forming any firm opinions though.

It looks like they will have a bit of a problem with the homeless coming in to use the bathroom, get some water, hit up customers. They were on top of that, and frankly a lot nicer than I ever am when shooing the homeless out of my upscale business.

Also, I would recommend they work with a graphic designer to get the menu layout and design a bit more polished. That was the only aspect that didn't seem really pulled together - just a vinyl tri-fold with computer printout inserts, and not enough content to actually fill those pages. Hopefully that is temporary.

Any other questions?

Dial - regarding the menus. They may still be finalizing the menu so temporary ones may suffice until the chef, owner and all others involved agree to a final menu.

Yes, I know, I got fully over-specific didn't I? "30 more seconds on the press" What a retard.

Yeah, I liked it. The crowd was good - a mix of some older folks and a few young professionals.

Good job, (proof) owners. It's a great addition to downtown.

There is no supporting actress divided by category, why you gotta be like that??

That blue vinyl "thing" wrapping the Fyfe building is a total turn-off. Seems like anything regarding graphic identity needs work.

I agree, that awning is about the tackiest thing I've seen in awhile. Totally makes it look like a temporary bar created just for the Super Bowl.

Went in this evening. Scotch and Water (the Well Scotch is John Red) was 5.25. Not too bad, the ownership seemed very nice, they were all there and all the staff greeted me. If that keeps up they will do great.

Jt1 would not have said that becaues it's not true. Tiger Stadium's not on Woodard. It's on Michigan Ave. Comerica park is is on woodward.:-)

Not only are some of CoPa's parking lots on Woodward, but the stadium's address is 2100 Woodward Ave.

I know, I know, the stadium is NOT on Woodward but someone must've figured a Woodward address would be recognizable to fans...

Got another quick peek inside The Woodward. What a difference a week makes. Looks like much of the interior build-out was complete and it looked great. ...at least that was my observation for the 3 or 4 seconds that the door was opened when I walked by.

Does anyone else think it's extremely weird that Michigan's oldest gay bar, The Woodward [quite possibly the oldest gay bar in the Midwest, and/or continuiously running anyhere] already exists a few miles up the road and has the same name?

I wonder if the new The Woodward checked with the other The Woodward.

To avoid confusion, the new The Woodward should change its name. To Backstreet.
