The majority of these offered dwellings will never be rented - and if they are rented, they won't sell for the asking prices these people seek. This is an annual occurrence at Super Bowl. Numerous locals who think their pad is now worth multiple thousands of $$$ will likely go unrented. Typically, the renter asks too much, offers too little in real services (which people spending these kind of $$$ demand), and really doesn't know how to go about offering HOSPITALITY. Adding to the problem is that most ideal customers won't know for sure if they want it until they know their team is playing (after the conference championships are played), so the renter and tenant only have about a week to find each other. If you were a swinging, loaded executive with a 10K+ budget for the week, would you spend it on a home with people who had never done this before, or would you spend it on a proven first class hotel suite with services at your beck and call? I was actually fortunate to arrange a place to stay in Detroit with a civic minded local couple. A tour guide, place to stay, and very conveniently located - and for a very modest price. It's people like this that should make you proud of your city - very nice people who care about what us visitors think. |

Good to hear, Audible. We have had many people call about our place, but I am pretty sure noone will actually rent it. As you stated, we are not willing to offer a TON of amenities, but we are making sure they can watch all the movies and stuff via DirecTV on our 62" wide screen, Plenty of drinks and snacks and fully furnished including kitchen. We also have a great list of restaurants, bars and things going on in the City available and maps of where they are and how to get there. We are not asking $10K, but somewhere below that. It has to be worth our while, too... But, like I said, we are not expecting to rent it out, only offering it if it is what someone is looking for and willing to pay. *shrug* |

I'm not sure of the details of your offering, but allow me to give a few tips, from the POV of an experienced Super Bowl visitor. I would look for couples wanting space. Depending on the size of the dwelling, you could offer it for one/two/three couples for a reasonable fee. It's all about location. If you have a good city location, for example, that's more at a premium, since good city space is hard to come by. But even with ideal location, most places won't sell for more than 1-3K total for the whole weekend - that's where the real market is. If you talk/have extensive email with your potential renters, and "feel them out", I think you'll find some willing and responsible tenants. It depends on location and how many people you can comfortably accommodate, but if you have more realsitic expectations on rental fees, you CAN successfully rent your space - and make a tidy profit. It's ONLY for a weekend - most will want Thursday or Friday until Monday. Also, the majority of your calls will come after this Sunday, when the championships are played. Do you have your offering on Ebay? Might be a good time to list it, if you haven't already. This is prime advertising time. People are "scanning" for options in case their teams make it. Remember that there is availability through the NFL agency website for rooms out in suburban areas, typically selling for 200-400 per night. Of course, that might well change in time, but they always hold back rooms until the last couple of weeks, so participating teams fans can get rooms. Good luck with your rental! There are unrented and obviously unfurnished lofts in my building one mile NE of the stadium...I thought about renting mine but it would be too big a pain in the ass to box my stuff and move it. I'm just going to run a brothel instead. Pimp-action-atcha! |

We are renting our place out to a friend of my fathers who is from Pittsburg for three nights. They are not paying anywhere near $10,000, but it will be a nice chunk of change and I don't have to worry about having "strangers" in our house. |

My cousin volunteered my place to her friend who is a season ticket holder for the Seahawks. I love her dearly but WTF...I'd GIVE one of my extra beds to a Steeler's fan or two...but this yuppie mofo will have to PAY unless he's giving his other ticket to her and buying her flight...she's the craziest football fan that I know, hard to believe she's related to me. Rabid Steeler's fan stuck in Seattle...much love to you cous'...stay strong. |
