This is a great. http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs .dll/article?AID=2006601250325
quote:In spite of visiting about 15 other spots, she was sold. She asked about the empty building across the street -- the Colony Club --and learned that it'd been mostly unused for 20 years. She flew her team into Detroit the next week and they booked all three venues. During Super Bowl week, the top floors of Centaur will be converted into VIP spaces -- moving Harrington's renovation project years ahead of schedule.

Just wanted to point something out. This is nothing against the Forbes. It is against this whole anti-Ilitch crew on this forum who bitch and moan about the Ilitch family and treat Forbes like a diety. "We're not 100% sure exactly what is going to happen to it, but we are definitely going to look to do private events in the ballroom. Right now we do a lot of weddings at the Gem Theatre and ... our biggest room seats 200 people," says Scott Myers, spokesman for the Gem and Century theaters, owned, like the Colony, by the Forbes family. "We regularly have to turn away wedding parties that are looking for a nice space for 250 or 300, and that ballroom gives us a larger space." Looks like the Forbes crew owns some vacant buildings around the Fox, too. Never see anyone on here mention that. It is nice to see this adaptive reuse, however. And the Forbes crew have kept the Colony Club in fine shape. Back to the requests for pictures of the colony club; bitching about Mike Ilitch; rumors; gossip and innuendo. |

Colony Club Building Interestingly enough, its actually on the market, unlike Ilitches properties.
quote:The property also provides an income until February 2006...
Interstingly enough, its occupied, unlike many of the Ilitches Buildings. It also has all its windows. So besides owning a building on Park Avenue, remind me how the Ilitches and this building owner are alike??? (Message edited by gogo on January 25, 2006) |

Sean sure lucked out, because his project being accelerated by a few years means we could see a new residential condo/loft way sooner. He should be commended for the progress around the Town Pump and Centaur corners. |

You know what this article says to me: poo on all the people who bitched and whined that the Super Bowl won't do anything for the city. That it would just blow in and that would be that. Sure, things will slow down (considerably), but there is no doubt 99% of everything that has happened downtown wouldn't have happened without the Super Bowl. I like to say "whine" |
