Not yet. I was hoping to have lunch there today. I spoke with some people at the Dearborn location, and they said they're aiming for an opening sometime next week, but that's not even set in stone. |

I just drove by tonight and there were some scattered people inside, the tvs were on, and it looked open. People were drinking beers, just hanging out. I'd assume that yes, it's open, but I can't gaurantee it, because I didn't actually enter the front door. |

Tetsua, the fare should be similar to the Dearborn location from what I am told. There is going to be everything there from Steak to a simple bowl of chil. Alcohol, oh yes they will have alcohol and plenty of it. Here is a less than glowing review of the Dearborn local, but it should give you a vague idea of what to expect. From the sounds of the review, everything could easily be corrected with a decent restaurant manager with attention to service. http://www.metrotimes.com/metr opolis/restaurants/review.asp? id=8612 |

Should I sue if I find a puck in my chili? But again, maybe I shouldn't. That woman got nine years and her husband - "6-finger" Jaime - got twelve. |

They only have one kind of Chili? With a name like "Chili Bar" you'd think they'd have at least 5 different kinds! That's what I was hoping for, anyway... |

Nevermind. I just went to chelischilibar.com and I see they have 3 kinds of chili: original, veggie, and chicken. (Message edited by chris_rohn on January 27, 2006) |

Stopped in for a drink last night. The kitchen won't be open before the next weekend-long private Nike party. The interior is attractive of course, but the atmosphere is going to be very Hockeytown/Dearborn Cheli's I'm afraid. The waitgirls are very easy on the eyes, but that's about their only qualification. They kind of give you those clueless Applebee's-style greetings on your way in and out the door.... If nothing else, it's nice to have another visible pre- and post-game gathering place for the Tigers and Lions. |

you can customize the chili with several different and somewhat non-traditional toppings as well, in addition to opting for a bread bowl. personally, i love the chili... |

Regardless of what the vibe is inside, I think the fact that the facade was faithfully restored, and looks great IMO, we should be happy to get the women's exchange building back on the board - Yes indeed! |

The non-touristy one. You can tell when you're around the regular downtown crowd and when you're not. |

Sounds like more divisiveness to me. Urban Schocker, some points to ponder... With the city losing more and more population by the day, those that would (apparently) fit into the "regular downtown crowd" are shrinking. How many establishments could reasonably be supported by an ever shrinking population? Also remember that (although the situation is getting better) the number of people that actually live Downtown (CBD) is far, far below the numbers that are actually needed to support much of the current and/or emerging businesses. Without the "touristy types", you wouldn't have half of the establisments that are there now. Would that type of situation be preferable? And how is having a "touristy crowd" different than any other major city's downtown? Perhaps when some people get over that type of mindset is when this city will really turn the corner. |

I just had lunch at the Dearborn location and all I saw was the one chili with variations on the theme. The three with cheese, onion, sour cream and then one with spaghetti noodles. It was really good but me being the ultimate cheap ass at restaurants I thought it could have been a $1 or $2 cheaper. However, I do realize that I was eating at a themed restaurant just letting you know the prices reflect that. ALOT more on the menu than chili, that is for sure. |

I hope there are no beans in that chili. That would be a sacrilege. Beans belong on the side, not in the chili. In chili cookoffs, they will disqualify an entry if there are beans or other "fillers" in the with chili. |

They were putting up a nice sign outside this afternoon. The building looks absolutely wonderful. The new windows are great, the what they did to the first floor entrance is amazing. |

Now that "sign" out front is gone and a new lighted one, in that design is up. Looks very nice. Took a peek inside, looks nice. Im sure this will be a hit during Tiger games. |

I went there Friday night. As someone else had stated, the kitchen wasn't open yet. It's got a dark wood interior, and seems to be a pretty good use of space. Lots of beers on tap. No Blue Moon. |

Oh - this is important. The main reason you'll want to hang out at Cheli's is for Old Style, which is otherwise non-existent in these parts. And that was the one keg that hadn't been hooked up on the night I was there. |

Forgot about the Old Style. A little too Chicago for my taste (no pun intended). A friend I was with saw it and said, "what the hell is Old Style". After I told her we used to drink it at State she got very uninterested quickly. |
