quote:They say Detroit is on the rise, but to get here for "Media Day'' I just followed the unemployment mailman. I got lost trying to find my hotel, but the crack-house attendants were so helpful. The first speed bump I hit had already been killed. OK, OK. I apologize. (After all, the warmth from that burning house was invigorating!)

This guy is a serious ass wipe. He probably wrote 2/3rds of that article the day he heard Detroit was selected for Superbowl XL. I guess he didn't read Mike Downey's article. |

The column simply comes off as written by a middle aged white guy who is bitter at being denied his annual junket to a warm weather Super Bowl. Poor little boy. Can't oogle girls walking down Bourbon Street or a South Beach sidewalk, isn't that a travesty. His "strong belief" that the game should be played at a warm weather site is completely unsupported by anything else he writes. He must have been a high school forensics champion. He didn't mention one other "person on the street", football player, celebrity, high flying executive or anybody else who shares his so obviously accurate opinion. What a self-absorbed twit. He gets paid handsomely to write "columns" such as that one. He probably banged out this "deep thinker" in 20 minutes or less on his laptop. Amazing. |

"...maybe put a dome over Soldier Field, jackass" Actually, there is (what looks to be) a spaceship over Soldier Field. Those new renovations look like schitt. (Message edited by NIP on February 01, 2006) |

Last time I checked the South Side of Chicago was in wonderful shape. How many crack-house attendants helped out-of-towners during the World Series? |

Why is it that those that want to negatively criticise the city always come from cities very similar to Detroit in their problems? lol |

Rick Telander, try to get it right next time. There's no sign at the Detroit City Limits that says, "Welcome, load up your Glock." Not even one about guns, optional. Interstate 94 ends in Port Huron, Michigan, not Canada. Your name calling Detroit "No-town" is juvenile. Get over it, the Super Bowl could have been in Green Bay, Buffalo or Minneapolis. That's even colder. jjaba on the Westside. |

That is some poor journalism and unbelievably negative about the whole Super Bowl event and Detroit. If I was his editor, I would have a serious talk with him about the quality of his writing and research. |
