Yeah, I heard it. It was probably somebody with some sort of turbojet private plane f'in around by the city airport.

BTW - Does anybody know if there are big impacts to aviation because of the spot lights? Is there a nota?

Two possibilities that make sense to me:

1. The aforementioned expected activity at CAY City Airport

2. Fighter activity out of Selfridge, for any number of reasons.

You live in the city and you're bitching about the noise?

I can always complain about something...

Not bitching, honestly. I was waiting to hear about a crash...windows were rattling.

Heard it too. There was a video on Yahoo about SuperBowl security and they mentioned that fighter jets would be patrolling the skies throughout the week. Probably just some ANG guy having a little fun.

Finally. Ddmoore found the answer.

Yes I also heard that the remainder of the week fighter jets will be patrolling the Detroit sky.

It is spooky to hear still.

Even though I know it's some sort of military craft (especially if it's very late), I cringe thinking that it could be out in response to an emergency as opposed to just patrolling to keep an eye on things.

Selfridge has just recently changes its' purpose. Tankers and support jets used to fly out, but now the air-base supports A-10 Warthogs. Lots of people in my area that live close to the base have commented on the additional noise.

Oh, please. ANYTIME there is something going on Downtown, the TV station helecopters LOVE to hoover over Brush Park. You want noise? Try listening to 3 helecopters a couple thousand feet above your neighborhood. now, THAT's annoying.

btw, I'm not complaining... it's all a part of the urban living experience I wanted when I moved here....That and the Police sirens and fire truck sirens, the City buses... I seriously love it.

Duo - I have a great urban experience.

I was driving down Mack Ave (Indian Village area) - when I saw a prostitute do a "farmers nose blos" you know with one finger on a nostril...after she blows her nose (most un-ladylike) she yells at "Hey you want to party?"....I think her marketing technique might be a bit off!

Thanks for the Laff, ILD! So, how was the Party? hahahahaha...

I can just see you slamming on your breaks, getting out of your car and showing this lady how a "real lady" should do it. *laff*

I stopped and gave her a fine linen hanky! Then I gave her some instruction on foot wear. Prostituting in flats is just not attractive (unless she is trying to pick up butch lesbians) - heels are better (men like them to). And don't even get me started on her outfit! :-)

The whole scene is one of those reasons why I love living here. You wouldn't see that in Oakland or Macomb Co.

Detroitduo...I agree and I love the noise too. Just wondering, at the time, if there was a crash or something else... ;)

I lived at the Jeffersonian in the early 90's and there was NOTHING like a drug bust on a warm summer's night at the marina next door. Helicopters would be hovering at my apartment level, like 100 ft away from my balcony (22nd floor) AWESOME...

My neighbor claims you shouldn't be concerned. He calls this the "sound of freedom". Can you imagine your paranoia if you associated that noise with a possible bomb on your head ? Talk about disturbing your sleep !

I think the term "Sound of Freedom" was applied to jet noise and/or sonic booms during the early Cold War in a public relations campaign by the military to quell complaints of noise by housewives who didn't care to have their babies awakened from their naps, as the first generation of fighter interceptors started making their appearance at dozens of bases around the country, especially in Air Guard units near metropolitan areas.

So a few planes come every now and then.
Booo hooo...... At least you don't live where the Blue Angels practice inches from each other and where hundreds of student aviators/navigators are learning to fly (and crash).

On a more serious note the military takes noise abatement very seriously, so if it's disturbing your life (and spooking your livestock) then call up Selfridge AFB and let them know. You may even force them to leave like the residents did in Virginia Beach.
