Why is it that the Detroit News seems to not print the positive buzz, which (from what I can tell) definitely outweighs the negative buzz. The News is so anti-Detroit - I just don't get it. They should be more balanced. Kind of make me sick. I live in Naples, FL and the reports we get down here are overwhelmingly positive and supportive - too bad that doesn't exist in your own backyard! |

Amen, Tony. And speaking of supportive reports in Florida, catch this refreshingly honest observation on a Miami Herald blog today in a Postcard from Detroit by sportswriter Greg Cote: quote:It is unseasonably not freezing and snowing here, a grave disappointment to thousands of curmudgeonly sports writers who packed their preconceived slams on Detroit as surely as they packed their flasks.

Agreed. In fact, Kortney Stinger of the Free Press who likes to inject negativity about Detroit in many of her articles, wrote: Visitors not wowed by Detroit cleanup Interesting since judging by the articles these visitors are writting, the majority seem to be positive. But the local media never disappoints. Even in her own article, the reviews seem to be mixed, but the headline leads people to think that its all doom and gloom. Typical glass half empty thinking at the freep. (Message edited by gogo on February 02, 2006) |

No shit, what the fuck is this all about? I've read articles in MOST papers from major cities giving Detroit praise. Why the hell does our local rag have to sniff out only the negative shit and publish it for all visitors to see? VERY poor taste on their part. http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.d ll/article?AID=/20060202/SPORT S0106/602020388 |

The local media in this town is always down on Detroit. They cannot say ANYTHING positive. They love it when we fail - I honestly think when they write negative stuff that it makes them sell more papers in the suburbs (or at least they think it does). I think they feel suburbanites like seeing negative writings as many of them "fled Detroit"...it gives them a sense of "see you need us you can't do it on your own attitude." |

I suggest writing a good, intelligent letter to the editor about their coverage. Maybe take an informal survey of what is said, and show that what they are repeating isn't representative. |
