I should have clarified, I meant as a permanent location. Similar to the Today Show or other NYC based broadcasters that do live shows with rockefeller or timesquare as their backdrop.

I think WDIV's reporting of the events downtown was the best, in part because they were in the heart of it all. They seem to have a van parked on the curb over there all summer long. And during the tree lighting and everyother event that goes on downtown.

Seems to me that a permanent presence on the monroe block would be ideal.

WDIV is already downtown. Their studios aren't very old. They can't be more than 15 years old. Why would they leave a fairly new purpose built building that they own?

How about we try to brign someone from out of town down to the Monroe block?

I know they are already downtown, but they seem the most likely to do something like this since they are almost always reporting from CMP.

I really don't care who does it, I just think someone should. I'd be happy to pluck one from the suburbs. ?

Me too, but I would prefer that we pull someone from out of state. The region as a whole needs more business, not the same business pitting cities/counties against each other.

I'd be happy to pluck one from Ohio, but I think it'd be difficult to pluck Cincinatti's local news from Cincinatti.

Yeah, bring Fox 2 or WXYZ to the Monroe block instead, and top it off with 30 floors of condos.

I think it's a great idea, one that I've thought of many times. No better time than now since there are people downtown doing things. Why have a fake-ass set behind you when you can just have a window.

A great location would be the bank space in the first federal building...it would be awesome!

The Monroe Block would make an ideal location for a downtown campus building for either Wayne State or the University of Michigan.

I actually thought of that years ago ! I even wrote to WDIV and consider. Their were no answer but it seems ironic cause i chosed monroe block too. It was going to be 30 story with ground floor retail and upper floor lofts. For WDIV , I wanted it to be like MTV where you can interact with fan outside and have a large plasma screen on the outside near the front entrance , showing detroit theme videos ! Oh yeah and a marquee scroller or whatever its called! Like hockeytown .........dont mind me , im bored !

You guys do realize that a a tv studio was proposed for the site a few years ago, right? The building was proposed as a humilating 3-4 stories. Needless to say it was dropped like it should have been.

Fury13, What programs would either university put there? Seems like an odd location for that? Are you thinking an executive MBA program or something like that?

I enjoyed the windowed studio looking out on CMP, it is a good idea...Gets interactive with the public...during the SB coverage they were turning around every 5 minutes or so and waving and interacting with the ppl...I think its a spendid idea.

as a Detroit lover and resident (and I say this so people don't flog me)...I can't wait to see someone peeing in the street in the background of a live newscast.

I'll be waiting...

I'm sure they will have a rent-a-cop to prevent ppl from doing such things...
