Well the west Jefferson dot is closer to the river than the east Jefferson one...

As long as you don't mind the smell...

8900 East Jefferson is the address of the River House Apartments. It's a 1950's looking yellow brick building with bands of long horizontal windows. It's set between The Jeffersonian and the river. Originally, there was to be another identical tower where The Jeffersonian now sits.

There is a restaurant space on the ground floor. Many years ago it was a Chinese-American place.

The building is a coop. Over the years, many of the smaller units have been combined into larger spaces.

The Chinese restaurant was called Hoy Tin. It had the greatest drink called a Headhunter. I used to get it without alcohol. It had orange and coconut juice in it. I haven't been able to find anything similar. Does anybody know of a drink with those ingredients? I've been searching for this drink for years.

Rumors is a great spot, but it is not in an easy location to reach.

You need to drive into an apartment complex, park and then walk through a building to get there.

The previous edition of Rumurs only lasted for about 2 years (maybe less). I think it ended up being pretty much a private drinking establishment for the people in the River House and Jeffersonian.

We shall see, but it will be difficult for this place to make it (as much as the E. Jefferson area needs a good neighborhood bar).

Hoy Tin was my very favorite restaurant as a child. You sat on the floor at your table, that's pretty cool stuff to a 6 year old!

My parents live in the Riverhouse now, I will ask them if they have been to the new place and what they think.

From what I remember, they were not that impressed with the last "Rumors".

Ah yes..... Hoy Tin's, one of my favorites as well. As Blondy described it, there was a room where you could sit on the floor, but you had to climbed a ramp because that room was about 2 1/2 feet higher than the main dining room. You sat on the elevated floor. But under each table the floor dropped down to the original floor so that you could sit normally (with your feet down to the floor instead of crossing them uncomfortably). The restaurant had great views of the river, Erma Henderson Park, and the street (parallel to the river) that the Manoogian Mansion is on (you could see the mansion in the distance).

A great restaurant that I miss today!!

Royce -

We used to make a drink when I worked in the Virgin Islands called a Painkiller.

PKs:
1 part OJ
2 parts Pineapple juice
1 part Coconut Milk
Rum to flavor (We always used Mount Gay)
Sprinkled of Nutmeg (on the top if so inclinded)

Tasty.
