Terrible, inflammatory title. But I just can't help but ask if he's one of L.B. Patterson's drinking buddies? :-) He definitely has a role model in high places.

Seriously, these "public officials behaving badly stories" are a dime-a-dozen. I'd start to worry if things got too quiet. Between Kilpatrick, Patterson, and their cadre of characters you've got an annual reality show.

How embarrassing! You would think that as a public official and all he would be more careful.

Probably out partying with L Brooks

Good point. They really need to learn a lesson from KK on how to clean up after a party...

If this had been a city of Detroit official it would turn into the reason why Dtroit will never be a world class city, or we need new leadership in the city because our current leadership cant stay sober, and the story never ends.

Can I be the first to say only half jokingly: shut up. lol This didn't happen in Detroit. We really need to quit this second-guessing and "if this would have happened in (fill in the blank)." Just goes to show your motive behind posting this, and this is coming from someone who is not a fan of suburbia or suburban leadership. Quit the crap, and quit trying to poke someone into a city vs. suburb fight. This has gotten old, quick. Hmm...I guess I wasn't half-way joking.

Anyway...................... if it were a Detroit Official it would definitely turn into a case why Detroit would never be capable of being a world class city. The city's own media feeds off of this stuff. As stated before I know firsthand how the media would exploit this if it had been a Detroit incident with a Detroit official..period.

As for the reason people post things like this...It just showcases how everything in the burbs is peachy keen (regardless of how bad a situation can be). whats wrong with us discussing topics like this...This is a freakin forum, right??

Discuss anything you feel like to your hearts content. Just don't bitch about it when someone else tries to do the same.

Well, personally, I never bitch...I think its okay to be opinionated on a forum though. That is all I was trying to convey here.

Sometimes you have to admit that Detroit does get bashed by its own media and suburbanites as well.

I do, but what does it help to continually point that out day after day as if it's some kind of secret? Why can't a we be the ones that take a news story for what it is instead of always having to put one place down to elevate another? It's same high school antics that hold this region down, and someone has to stop the silliness. I'm tired of people on either side pointing out a politician behaving badly and then trying to beat down another with the line "if this was in..." It's not in (blank). It is bitching and whinning, and it's a chronic disease, here. And I'm going to call it as I see it.

We can keep going tit-for-tat. Detroit could have easily been slaughtered by the media SuperBowl weekend when two people were murdered in the heart of downtown after festivities, but they didn't. Some times you get a fair spin and sometimes you don't.

You can't have it both ways. If Detroit truly is the center of the region, than you sure as hell better expect greater scrutinty. And if the media wants to sneak in old stereotypes, their going to. What you can do is right them letter. But all of this assumption, and fortune telling before something even happens (if it even happens at all) is really turning me off on these boards. I'd like to think metro Detroit can get better, but as long as we have this underlying paranoia, nothing's ever going to get solved. I can assure you, the metro leaders can not cry "regional cooperation" with each holding a gun behind his-or-her back.

Who knows better the conditions of the road than a man who can hardly control his vehicle? He's the one that is surest to find any imperfections in the road surface, and as such is the best man for the job.

Dsmith - In this case I prefer to call it the 'equality in reporting about local officialsyes.com' sites.

How is this different than the Monica Conyers incident except in one case a law was broken and the other a jaw was broken.

No difference really but one was plastered (no pun intended) on the news and front page, the other was a little blurb.

That, and one was a violent crime. Who the f%ck cares? Seriously, are you really going to keep playing this game of 'gotcha?' That's no better than the media, and in fact just feeds it even more. How backwards is that?

OK - How about C. Beatty? You and I both know that what is said here doesn't count for shit in the media but you and I also know there is an attempt to villify Detroit leaders (and often rightfully so) much more than other leaders.

Is that some kind of secret? But more importantly, what does that mean to his particular story? Nothing, unless you make it so. Really, I'm done, here. You are going to keep trotting out example after example as if it should have any bearing on this one. Two wrongs don't make a right, it's just that simple, and I've made my point.
