Try http://www4.ci.detroit.mi.us/C ityofDetroit/

Then click on the 'accept' button for their legal doubletalk, and you'll be in. Just tried it.

The City Website used to allow you to look at maps that showed ownership and property lines.

With all of the knowledgable webbies in this community, why doesn't one of them step forward and create a better website for the city? I've always disliked the clunky nature of the existing design.

Well, thanks Ray. I looked at the site, whining that this is not the information and maps that used to be available - only to discover that I am in arrears on my taxes! Somehow my mortgage company did not understand about the escalated payment schedule I guess. So, now I have to trapise over to the Treasure's office I guess - but better than losing the house.

My friend went around the city website yesterday...looking for information on City Council in her dealings with Eastern Market people...and only found a calendar from 2003!!

I know this is probably a result of the money tightness of the city, but if we find out that one of Kwame's high school buddies is running THIS department too...we should be pissed. Everyone knows jocks can't do tech, even if they came from Cass Tech.

As far as property concerns and references go, zillow is going to be a good indication by creating a google map like image with all of the previous proprty values and the assesed property values of a given area.

I found zillow to be really inaccurate for Detroit property values, it seems to work better for the suburbs.

According to Zillow, property values in Detroit have lost more than 50% of their value in the 12 trailing months.

I almost believe it. The market is really bad for sellers right now. I'm sure that's not really news to anyone.

I'm glad I'm not trying to sell right now. It's so bad that in my building right now that there is an active listing for $49,900.

I don't trust zillow.com. I have a hard time believing my home has lost $69,000 in value in twelve months!

I call bullshit!

Zillow.com says it's only in beta. I doubt they intend it to be believed yet.

Zillow.com does not have much information about individual homes. How can you form an opinion of a home based on a single address? Not knowing the sq footage and number of bedrooms / bathrooms, as well as the size of the lot is what drives a homes selling price... most of this information is non-existant. I looked up my parents house and the information was incorrect. :|

I liked the maps......and miss them but the tax info is now reasonably accurate.

Perhaps they could oursource their webwork...
this guy in Bangladesh said he could do it.

ITS wasn't dismantled, CCSD was. There is still a skeleton crew of public affairs/communications staff and a Web editor, now reassigned to ITS as a result of Council-initiated budget cuts (like THAT makes any sense -- creatives in with the techies -- but that's Council for you!). Not much money to upgrade the Web site though.

By the way, the City Council's website is a separate site, created by an outside vendor (and linked to the City's main site). That's the one that cost mucho dinero.

Don't worry, I'll just raise rents to make up for it, and continue to depreciate the buildings to offset taxable gains made in other areas.

I would trust Zillow about as much as I'd trust zabasearch. And that's not much. =) I'm willing to bet that their values are using the property values from the 2002 assessment that used to be up on the website, not any newer ones.

FWIW, our house just north of Cadieux between Mack and Warren sold last week after being listed for less than 24 hours. For $35k MORE than the "Zestimate".
