I'm new here... so excuse me if someone listed this in another thread. I work at the Ren Ctr. A group of us frequently like to browse around at the shops in the Ren Ctr. However 2 of our favorites recently closed. I've wandered around Mil. Ctr a bit.. but I was hoping to find some additional shopping close to the Ren Ctr. I have to be able to get back to work on time (within an hour). Any suggestions? I'm looking for clothing, nic naks, shoes.. etc. |

Welcome Check inside the Compuware Building. There is a Border's Books, a jewelry store, a knick-knack shop, Ben and Jerry's, CVS across the street, a clothing store (Hot Sams), Jimmy John's, and a coffe shop. There are probably some that I missed. Which shops just closed in the Ren Cen? |

Along Woodward is Elite Closet and Mark England DeMonde (both clothing), around the corner on Griswold is a new clothing store but I haven't been in it yet. In the C-Ware deck is Rio Boutiqe with Sermnas, City Slickers and another place just down the stree. IN Harmonie Park is the essence of Harmonie Park (jewelry) a new place called Rags (haven't been in yet) and Spectacles (clothing) There is Borders in the C-Ware building, a sporting apparel store in the international building with a place across from it that sells incense and knock off perfumes. Caddillac Luggage is in the Ford (?) building, Real Detroit and a knick knack store is in the Guardian building, there is a neat little artsy store on Beaubien south of Beaubian Street Saloon, a few shops in Greektown. I'm sure I'm forgetting some but this is just quickly off the top of my head. |

Apparently the previous-to-last post should be in the past tense, as another thread reported the Cadillac Luggage space is now vacant. (Message edited by g-dub on February 21, 2006) |

The 2 Casual Corner stores closed in the Ren Ctr (did a lot of xmas shopping there). Superbowl stores replaced the Casual Corner stores in the short term. No permanent replacement identified yet. Still plenty of room for new business in the Ren Ctr. Someone start your business there.. lots of EDS / GM employees looking to spend money - not enough choices. (smile) Motorcitymayor2026 & Jt1 thanks for the shopping information! I'm glad the weather is changing. I'm looking forward to exploring a bit. |

Through a Google News search, I found this item from the Greenville News-Record (http://www.news-record.com/app s/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/200601 22/NEWSREC0103/301220002/1018/ NEWSREC0203) "Bad news for fans of Casual Corner Group stores. This summer, the company was sold to a liquidator, which is now in the process of closing Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate and August Max stores around the country." There were a number of similar stories specific to the locale which the newspaper covers. |

Welcome to the Forum, Kiki. One of our most interesting businesses is right across the street from Ren Cen: DuMouchelles Auction Gallery. the gallery is open Tues. through Saturday for browsing; but you really might enjoy the previews for their monthly auctions. The upcoming preview will be on Mar. 3, 4, 7, 8, & 9. There's nothing else quite like it in metro Detroit. |

Thanks for the People Mover guide! I've seen the Auction gallery out the window - but haven't ventured over yet. Been waiting for warmer weather. (I've already lost a hat to the winds whipping thru Jefferson.) |

Inside the building (someone can probably give the name) on Woodward on the southeast side of Campus Martius there are several businesses: National City, Subway, some sort of deli that also sells teas and diet foods and stuff, a sundries-type store, a (woman's?) clothing store, and some others. Probably unknown to all but those who work inside the building, much like the stores in the Ren Cen and other large office buildings. Also be sure to pick up the People Mover guide that is at stations, it's more up-to-date than the Detroit Synergy guide even though it doesn't list all businesses. It does list quite a lot. Spectacles in Harmonie Park (on Grand River) is a cool little store that has some clothes and other random stuff. |

Tomoh, I think you are talking about the First National Building..... That does have quite a few shops in it. On the outside, it is advertised as The Shops at First National or something similar to that on the awnings, hope that helps with your shopping Kiki |

The Pure Detroit Design Lab 156 W. Congress @ Shelby I think it's open from Noon to 6 pm. It's clothing and bric-a-brac from local designers. |

Don't forget the Mapdetroit website. They even had a kiosk near the entrance to Greektown Casino during the Motown Winter Blast... not sure if it's still up but you've apparently got a computer. And an internet connection. I believe it also covers Midtown now (before it was focused on Downtown). |

Tomoh, the Mapdetroit kiosk is still inside the Trapper's Alley section of the casino. (Near the Monroe St. entrance) |
