The 1957 Cleary Guest House on Windsor's Waterfront is threatend with demolition. Some hate it, some love it. While the demoltion has been approved in principal, there is a small window of opportunity to revisit the issue. Please pop over to: http://internationalmetropolis .com/?p=86 And let me know what you think... Save or Bulldoze? |

there's certainly some merit there. very interesting design. though it does look like a seedy motel. |

hmmm. i like the style, but there's really nothing substantial about it. plus, exposed concrete like that doesn't hold up very well from that era. it could be beyond saving, you might not be able to tell. [this is one of the main reasons you don't see much modern/post modern exterior concrete structures anymore. something about the technology used with the materials of the time just didn't hold up in the elements very well.] i might just have to see it to appreciate it fully, tho. |

Structually it is fine. It has been well maintained over the years. The current administration in Windsor, just thinks it's a little dumpy... The plan is to build a new one half in the park embankment. It will feature restrooms and a café. |

That would make a great Gondola station. |

I think it should be torn down. It blocks some great views and it really is quite useless. But I guess how much will be spent to take it down and build anew. |

I agree, a great little building that should be saved. |

I think it's expendable. I think there is quite a lot of mediocre Mid-Century out there (but a few very, very good structures). This is one of the mediocre ones. |

Losing that building would be like losing Ford Auditorium or Cobo Arena... |

623kraw. Loosing that building would indeed be like loosing Ford Auditorium or Cobo Arena. Of the three buildings, none are architecturally interesting, and all of them are taking up valuable riverfront territory. The Dettroit river should and could be Detroit's prime showpeice. Do you really want it cluttered with ugly early-modern monstrosities? Benjamin A. Vazquez, U.E. |
