Fascinating viewing; radically different from the finished product. Your findings never fail to amaze me, Aiw. Good job. |

Although jjaba has never been within miles of Eastland, this is some mighty fine scholarship. AIW comes over the border and tells us more than we'll ever imagine ourselves, eh. Thank you very much. jjaba, on his bike to Northland, 1954. |

Good old Eastland!! I just came back from a whirlwind trip there---Marshall Fields for a couple of bottles of Chateau Michelle red wine, (good price), over to Sears to check out a closeout on last years power mowers, and onto Lowes for a propane tank refill and some weather stripping. Sure beats driving out to the Macomb Mall on Gratiot and a lot closer too. I wonder who that guy was I saw in the lower level of Marshall Field's wearing sunglasses and checking out neckties. He was wearing a Cass Tech letter sweater, mumbling something about having 3,000 posts on the Forum, and therefore thought he was entitled to a better price, and asking the sales person where he could catch the Dexter bus home....I wonder.....no, it just couldn't be..... Looked familiar though..... |

Rock, that was jjaba. What, no Dexter bus over there in Grosse Pointe? Or am I in Harper Woods? You get jjaba East of Woodward, and it is another world over there. Does Eastland have a special fish fly eradication program? jjaba didn't see any. Glad The Rock has his convenient place to do his one-stop shopping. He forgot to tell us that he fast walks there at 8 am before the stores close with the pink Polo shirt, white shorts and his Sperry Docksiders without socks, even in dead of winter. jjaba, Westsider, we love ya Rock. Thanks again for the nice 3,000 post book gift. |

Jjaba, on the east side buying at retail? Nope, I don't think so. Ray1936, soon to move from Las Vegas to Henderson.... |

Ray1936, not to threadjack on Eastland, but Henderson is really barren, eh. You must really love the hot. How's the newsboy service out there? (jjaba asks as if there's a newspaper in Henderson, NV., population 525 on a good day with more jackrabbits than people.) But don't kid yourself, there have always been Jewish merchants at Eastland and all over the Eastside. jjaba dated Gail Karp, daughter of Karp Drugs on Gratiot. jjaba, never buy at retail. |

Henderson is currently the third largest city in Nevada, behind Las Vegas and Reno. Of course, it's part of the Vegas metro area. The house we're having built is so far south of the center of town that we're not even on any maps of the area I can find. Sort of like leaving Detroit for Trenton.

Eastland was to be built first, before Northland, but shortages of steel due to the Korean War postponed the project, and it was ultimately redesigned in the fashion of Northland. I think the consensus is that the orignal design would have been a disaster. |

Had it been built as planned, it would have been quite unique. It also would have presented major problems for the later enclosure. So even if it had been built, it probably would have been demolished by now. The plans I posted were publsihed in 1951, so they were pretty much completed at that time. I didn't even think about Korea as the reason why it took 6 more years to be built... |

Where is "context"? Is that the fourth largest city in Nevada? |

Shortages of steel is why Eastland got built after Northland. That's the context of Detroit, Westside trumping Eastside. Somes The Rock acts the donkey. Don't act the donkey Rock. AIW gives us serious research and you act the donkey. jjaba, LOL. |

Goodness.... Mr. up-tight Westsider. So, the "context" is Westside vs. Eastside? I doubt it. If that is what you get out of AIW's research, you have missed the mark. Better read Mikem's post again. I thought a little chochmeh wouldn't hurt. A Sof! A Sof! |

The Rock with his chochmehs. That Yiddische word is a family favorite. We have in common Northland and Eastland. Both have seen their share of the Detroit angst. Miles and miles apart, but still that same Detroit ruins angst. Novi or Grosse Pointe Rosa Parks Rib Joint, Mack to Cadillac Woodward to Mackinac, We got them low-down around the DEtroit town blues. jjaba, Westside Dexter Ave. Bluesman |
