State's 'broken' financial system straps communities

Nice quick overview article. Too bad the Detroit News can't consistently explain the situation.

I also noted how dispassionate the article is. No quotes from residents, wringing their hands about what tomorrow may bring. I wonder why the only include those quotes in a similar story about Detroit?

I got quite a laugh out of the quote from Hazel Park's attorney. The city is accused of retaliating against a guy who questioned suspicious transactions, and what does the attorney say, "Mr. Heckmann doesn't understand how the city works."

I never thought somebody from Hazel Park could sound snobby.

Corrections: The Royal Oak 2007 projected budget deficit is $1.6 million. Also, the Normandy Oaks Golf Course is not for sale, though the Commission has reviewed some development proposals.
