Any recommendations on where to be? Who to see? Open for all suggestions music/venues? And please don't say pick up a MetroTimes and look for yourself. Have that, just not familiar with the local scene. |

The best thing to do is take advantage of the shuttle buses (which are a hoot in an of themselves) and hit as many venues and see as many bands as possible. The best part of the Blowout is the thrill of discovery! |

Will look to travel into town next year for the Blowout. This year my initial reaction was disappointment because so many bands I enjoy like Cinecyde and ssm are playing at the same time, different venues, but that is obviously the wrong attitude. Looks best not to have any agenda, just a healthy bout of listening and bar hopping. (Message edited by xD_brklyn on March 03, 2006) |

I don't know how much I will see this weekend, but for any lurkers, new students of Detroit and Hamtramck virgins, I will vouch without reservation that Hamtramck is one of the coolest places in the D. It is diverse, dynamic, full of creative types, full of interesting small businesses, bakeries, shops and more. If you want the flavor of Detroit from before the sprawl and fall, stroll down Joseph Campau on any given day. Even Royal Oak, which I also enjoy, comes in a distant second to Hamtown, a place that for all its struggles keeps it real. |

I didn't notice too much price gouging going on during the Blowout last night... I was told that bars aren't allowed to sell any beers at or below what they're charging for Molson, though--hence why Old Milwaukee was $3 at Paycheck's. Ugh. Odd Clouds, Cuckold, and the Athletic Mic League should all be good bets tonight. The Amino Acids are always fun, too, and I'm sure that Great Lakes Myth Society will put on a good (albeit packed) show. |
