I realize that that tanning may not be a hot business idea in a community that is largely African-American, but I am going on vacation in a few weeks and need a starter tan. Where is there a tanning salon or tanning bed downtown? Someone mentioned the new day-spa downtown, but spas don't usually have tanning beds?!? | ||

Gambling man, Some spa's have tanning. For example, I own a Spa in the suburbs and we also have tanning (actually, tanning is our biggest draw). Anyway, we have been considering a small salon in the downtown region, because it is missing. problem is, the demographic is just not big enough to allow a decent sized salon to cover the rent (which is quite high). We're looking for the right mix of business to be successful. Anyway, to answer your question, I know the fitness center in the Suites Hotel (across from Ren Cen) has tanning beds. I don't know how you can get in to use them without being a memeber, though. You can always ask at the fitness center desk. I would also wonder if the YMCA has them. I haven't been in there since they opened. Good luck and let everyone know what you find. I'm curious, because I haven't found much in the Downtown area, either... | ||

My name is Liz and I am a tanorexic. There is no decent tanning bed downtown. You must drive to the burbs. There probably are some decent ones near your house, but I recommend UltraTan on 10 Mile and Telegraph. Or South Beach on Mack in Grosse Pointe. Not sure how often you make it into the Well, but one of the owners there did, and my still, own a tanning salon. It is the blond owner always decked out in sporting gear. Good luck! | ||

Please spare this salon, with its big tanning beds,nail stations and soon to be offered, massages. ( I hear the chicks are hot, and the guys have great 6 packs). I believe that we need to look into which side the tanning salon owners are really supporting. I am thinking that they are Livonia sympathizers. Let's look at the facts: 1. Claim to live in Detroit but there is always talk about being in Germany. 2. Owns a business in the suburbs to support the economy there which can only help build up their war machine. 3. Of all businesses they choose to create a business in the whitest city in America (over 100K) that makes the people look darker. Could this be a training ground for Livonia spies. The first step, 20 tanning sessions. I smell a rat. I suggest Zulu set up some surveillance on DetroitDuo, or should I say LivoniaDuo? | ||

Why would I tan. My extreme whiteness works perfectly for my surveillance role for the City of Detroit. I can go to any mall or store and gather data on the enemy without being detected. I love the Style Council! They have some awesome clothes for men and women. Did some Xmas shopping there.. Ok, now I am curious who Fiesty1 is....
