Did anyone see anything on the news last night about a convent being demolished in the Michigan Ave and Livernois area? Any word, any links?
Thanks!

Maybe that's the one by Ste. Cunegunda's - east of Lonyo and north of Michigan. The former convent at the former St. Stephen's school on Central where I once taught the fifth grade was converted five years ago into a middle school for girls starting in 2001. Another parochial school was on Martin street south of Michigan and a few blocks west of Livernois. All three of the former twelve Southwest Detroit Vicariate schools were administered five years ago by the pastor of Ste. Anne's parish.

Our Lady Queen of Angels is on Martin, just south of Mich. Ave, by the oxen statues in the fence, which is why I'm concerned. It's a incredibly beautiful church w/an equally beautiful rectory, school, & convent. (I hope detroitblog guy goes there one day like he did w/Holy Redeemer).

Holy Redeemer sent the last few (maybe just one) of its remaining nuns out of their large convent about two years ago - or was it only last year...

Way to go Maida. As our money goes off to DC to a faltering museum, another chunk of the archdiocese flames out here locally.

Just a little point of information requested of you smogboy: are you a regular church-goer? When was the last time you put an envelope in a RC church Sunday collection? Do you contribute to the annual AofD appeal? I do all those things. I'd just like to be sure that you are truly speaking of "our money" or are you lamenting "my" money?

It must be easy being an AoD webmaster. All he has to do is make deletions for schools and parishes every few weeks...
