I think overall positive perception by the nation and our region will be the biggest long term boost!

Wouldn't it have been easier just to designate the winnings from one of the Michigan Lotto games to Detroit?

Yes, people perception of our area is changing and hopefully it lead to more smaller conventions and event coming to Metro Detroit, like the bridge tournament in 2008. Tourism is a huge thing that could help to turn the state around. We have so many great things to offer, we need to market that more.

Well, with the lottery, really it is just shuffling the money around, while most of the money from the superbowl is from out of state (meaning michigan got richer).

yay money!!

Does the freep's "Detroit area" include Windsor? If not, the regional economic impact would likely be over the $300 Million mark.

I can't remember, does that meet the expected windfall? I seem to remember someone saying it would be around $450 million, but I'm probably mistaken.
