Hey everyone, long time lurker here... I was just wondering if the closing date of the Book Cadillac had been pushed back? I seem to remember that they specified a new closing date of March 2006... anyone know anything??? TIA |

I hope so. I really want to see that project happen. That would be the BIG construction project in downtown this summer once, and if, it goes forward. |

"The paperwork is getting the final once-over by a tax guru" Well Brian BETTER not mess up this Book Cadillac deal. But seriously, can you imagine a Washington Blvd. anchored by Rock Financial on the north, Cobo on the south and the four star (i'm guessing) Westin Book Cadillac in the middle. Talk about a transformation. |

This is what Washington Blvd needs and that whole area could use a boost - maybe it would lead to some interest in the old Freep bldg. |

No...I just don't know who he is. In other words, what does Brian have to do with the Book. Those were questions. This is a forum. And i was just desiring answers. It's little remarks like yours that often sway the way a thread on this forum which ususally leads others to say something stupid and it gets the entire thread off the original topic. By the way, i stay in a house, not under a rock. |

B_M - Brian has beena consistent vocal critic of the project and pretty confident in the fact that it will never come to fruition because it is not economically feasible for any company to do it, even with all of the tax credits. Brian is also a big critic of CoD money or tax credits being used to spur development downtown. |

Brian's knowledge about how various tax programs work has also been shown to be somewhat...deficient many times in the past. Are there no other longtimers here to laugh at this? (Message edited by Hamtramck Steve on March 20, 2006) |

I guess I should amend my first post. I do not know if Brian is a vocal critic but he is a critic on this board. |

B_M, as you can tell by now my post #521 was gross sarcasm, as was my "duh" post...didn't mean to offend you, you're a good guy. Actually it's more my fault since you are a relative newcomer and haven't witnessed numerous Book Cadillac threads devolve into a bitchfest over the tax structure of the deal. Anyway, the end of March is only 11 days away, hopefully there will be NO MORE DELAYS. At this point, Detroit and Wayne County need all the positive press and new development that they can get. The news has been overly negative lately from the economy, to the zoo, crime and political corruption. |

Forgive me all, I guess i am partially responsible for this sway. I just asked a question and it lead to this. I really hope this project gets moving because it will be beneficial for the entire Washington Blvd corridor. |

By the way, welcome to Waynestudent82. There'll be laughter, there'll be tears, there'll be temptations to smash your monitor. And there's social events (see Detroit Connections). I would have said "socializing" but I was afraid Karl would interpret that as "socialism". HammSteve, I thought it was funny! |

I'm a long time lurker to this site. Glad to hear that the B/C project is coming along, and a quality brand will be managing it. Ironically enough, Sheraton and Westin are the same company now (Starwood) so it's sort of a case of "deja vu all over again". Hopefully, Westin will be able to have as long a run as Sheraton did, and will be able to undo some of the damage Sheraton inflicted. |

I seem to remember stumbling across a book-cadillac website. Not the one by the friends of book-cadillac, but one from the developer. I know I've found others for rehabed Detroit land marks like the Guardian. Does anyone know if there is a book site or am I just imagining it? If there is one would you post the link? |

Who can forget how these threads used to turn into Skulker and Brian trading posts numbering into the tens of paragraphs EACH? One bitter person going after another, page after page after page... And that was before Skulker declared war on the FOBC. |

So he could personally knock them all down under the cover of nightfall. As we all know, Skulker hates buildings. We should all be glad that said list was never produced for him, it would only be the start of his madness; who knows how many buildings would fall to the wrath of Skulker? |
