Drove by the gorgeous Mcgregor Library in Highland Park and saw quite a bit of work taking place. I might have saw a crane there moving/taking stuff on the roof.

Anyone have word what's going on?

Pillaging?

I heard at one time that the mayor or someone was using their own money to redo the roof so it can reopen.

great news. That building is a treasure and I've always wanted to have a gawk at the photo archive that they have in the basement.

I can confirm that Highland Park obtained money for the roof repairs, to stop leaks and stablize the building. They are still looking for money to reopen the building, hopefully as a library/community center. Also, they need money for new parking meters in front of city hall. Anyone who would like to donate can contact me for more info.

Adamo, Ferguson and Homrich are joining forces to form a collective called Bermuda Triangle Wrecking. They will converge from their disparate home bases and lay waste to McGregor...

lol

1953, that would make one awesome community center for Highland Park. I hope the city will search with as much time and resources as it can possibly give to that effort to attract a private investor, because the city sure can't afford to run a library now, or even in the forseeable future, I'd think. The actual structure, though, is one the city can't afford to lose, and I'm glad they are taking the necessary steps to save it.

Lmichigan...my organization is working with Highland Park to help them locate federal, national and local foundation funding and to develop a sustainability plan for the reopened library. It is a significant task, but it must be done. I'm not sure if we will be successful, but we hope to get them moving in the right direction.

i had a plan to rescue all those books from mcgregor- while on rollerskates.

as a librarian, it breaks my fricking heart every time i drive by that library knowing that there are thousands of books in there getting dripped on through a holey roof. it's an absolute travesty.

and 1953- i can't believe you didn't tell me about this project! as a former colleague of yours and as a librarian, i am positively indignant! information withholder!

"Information withholder" must be the worst of all possible insults that a librarian can hurl at another human being. :-) I just love librarians!

An archive of photos showing the history of HP.
It would have been nice if someone had moved them to a drier place; I can only hope that the photos are still in good shape.

information withholding is a serious crime in the world of librarians... information is to be shared, organized for easy retrieval, and treated with respect!

neilr- 1953's transgression will be dealt with, don't you worry!

"I walk the corner to the rubble that used to be a Library
Line up to the mind cemetery...
What we don’t know keeps the contracts alive and movin’
They don’t gotta burn the books they just remove ’em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as the cells
Rally round the Family - with a pocket full of shells...."
