The store at 3401 Cass, formerly occupied by Birdtown, will soon be vacant. We are hoping for someone to open up some sort of store in that location. The rent is very reasonable, and the building is in decent shape. I would say it is about 2000 square feet or so. It is right next to Showplace Collectibles, so another resale shop would be a good fit. Anyone have any other ideas? I hope the place does not stay vacant for long. I have high hopes for my neighborhood! |

Because nobody would want to come in there, with all the bitching at each other. Everytime someone new would come into the café, someone would jump down their throat or beat them down. Then, everyone would bitch about food or the coffee. Finally, it had better not have any bathrooms, because that will just open an entirely different can of worms! |

Actually, Cafe, a Garden store is PERFECT for that area. This was actually an Idea I have had for a long while, to open an urban gardening store. I think it would be wildly popular... |

Wouldn't a gardening store do better in an area where most of the people have yards? |

Not my idea. I just heard talk of one a few months back. Ummm Dabirch, there are a lot of people with yards with in a 5 mile radius of that area. There are 900 yards in Boston-Edison alone. Flower boxes work will for people in condos, and some people just like a plant to liven up the work place or the kitchen. I have a lovely African violet and another Pink pretty thing in my kitchen. Open up to it a little. It could work. I think the person who thought of it would do well to consider this location. What an easy place to stop in the morning after going to Avaon for a coffee, and dropping off the dog at K925. There are lots of yards close to Cass...and people who actually live in the houses with the yards too. |

Birdtown is not closing, I have bought Birdtown. However, the parrot will not be moving to Canine To Five, as I am kind of scared of it. The rent is $450. There is an awesome community garden between me and Birdtown. |

We are going to focus mainly on the grooming to start, and we will have limited retail items starting in late summer/early fall. I think I will start another thread about it, asking DYesers what retail items they want me to sell. |

I'm confused... Birdtown will be located in Canine to Five now? It is interesting that this thread came up today. I took a walk yesterday when I got home from work early. I stopped in Canine to Five to check it out and say hi. Then I browsed around Showplace for a while. (I've got to get a stereo with a record player so I can look more carefully through the record selection.) Birdtown was closed already for the night, but I think the owner was having a beer in Showtime. |

I feel like people are getting confused. I bought Birdtown, I am moving the grooming business into my facility, Canine To Five. I need to learn how to run a grooming shop before I can learn to b ecome a retailer. So come August or September, we will begin selling pet related items at Canine To Five. I am hiring all of Birdtown's employees. The store where Birdtown is currently, roughly 2000 square feet, at 3401 Cass, is for rent, $450 a month. I want someone to rent that space so there are more businesses in my neighborhood. |

Wow, $450 sounds cheap although I'm not familiar with commercial rents. But I'm paying 1/3rd that price for my share of the "rent" for about 10 sq ft of space for my business-cum-hobby. What I'm saying is $450 is something five (Wayne State) college students with some savings and another job could come up with. If only I knew something about running a (successful) business or had any idea of what to run in that store. I know! How about a (real life) contest for ideas for uses for that space. 1953, I support you opening an art gallery there. Wish I knew more about running one. One day, after amassing incredible resources, I'd like to plop down a mixed-use Asian neighborhood where the Chinatown markers currently are. I know Cleveland's been somewhat successful in growing an urban Chinatown with senior housing. Please, no references to African Town. |

I didn't really care about the parrots ... but it could be construed as sad that birdtown is no more. I think the clarification that Birdtown was *going* to close and Canine to Five *bought* (instead of simply added) the grooming business should be made. It is sad that Birdtown closed, but it's not because of corporate conglomerate Canine to Five. |
