the Tigers are in town against the Twins that weekend, so you could go to a game - or just check out the bar scene around the park area.

happy birthday.

In between touring around Detroit, you may wish to show them one of the unique aspects of the area: it's proximity to Canada. Your friends will appreciate the bilingual signs and the opportunity to smoke legal Cuban cigars. Also, (if you didn't know) the view of Detroit from Windsor is amazing -- have someone bring a camera.

Be sure to have your friends bring their birth certificates.

Buzz Lounge is fun downtown - it is across from Opus - Very cool! Great music, pizza and booze!

Take them to Eastern Market for breakfast on Saturday AM.

Take them to Avalon Bakery for the best lattes in town.

Take them to the DIA - it looks great with all the art crammed into rooms for the renovation.

Take them for cocktails (get dressed up) to the Coach Insignia on top of the Ren Cen.

Take them to the Works on Michigan Ave (mostly gay but very diverse) on Saturday night for dancing and fun!

DIA is kinda willy nilly.. With all sorts of art jammed into one place; and the majority of it has nothing to do with one another. :|

I'd recommend the Tiger's game. 3 young guys hitting a couple of bars before the game; grabbing some cheap seats; and then head out to your favorite bars afterwards. Especially if the weather holds up!

Take a walk down Broadway (past the new YMCA), Friday night, hit dinner at Vicente's on Library (9:00 for salsa dancing lessons) There may be some young ladies ready to dance with the out-of-towners. Don't forget Greektown on a Friday-Sat night, very busy and eclectic.

The big draw at the DIA is the Diego Rivera Murals!! They were controversial when he painted them, and they can be the catalyst for quite a discussion. You can also check out the Detroit Film Theatre onsite to see what's playing that weekend.

Also, a stroll through Elmwood Cemetery is always interesting because the monuments and mausoleums and markers are so diverse. Stop in their office for the lists of notables (politicians, war heroes, industrialists, etc.). It's history, art, and natural beauty all in one location. The terrain is much like most of the area was almost 200 years ago.

Happy Birthday! Have fun!!

Even though I ate at the Original this week...i would not recommend it if he is trying to show his friends the city of Detroit. It is NOT in Detroit

Slows BBQ...great ribs and drinks.

Mexicantown with a great assortment of Mexican restaurants and a couple of good Mexican novelty stores.

Ride the Detroit People Mover and use it to get to several different locations. Make it your ride for the night. Greektown(and the Casino), The RenCen..Seldom Blues etc

True it is not in Detroit however it is in the area which is almost the same. One problem on this board is that people commonly use the burbs vs. Detroit stuff. If you ever go to L.A. the whole area is a bunch of suburbs, yet it is all considered L.A. Grosse Pointe to me is the rich part of Detroit or the Detroit area, considering it is practically surrounded by the city.
