I am constantly impressed with the work of the detroitblog guy. This new theme “Art Deco Party Store of the Month” is just another in a long line of fantastic images and words. detroitblog is our Atget-of-Detroit capturing the Ancien Regime of the landscape in Detroit that will shortly be no more. The eye of the photographer is utilitarian and artistic at the same time. His reportage of the images wrapped in the words is dilatory to allow the reader and viewer to inhale the essence. Along with the material of bricks and mortar he transforms the mundane into almost the sacred. The detroitblog guy is truly a treasure to us that love Detroit and we are fortunate to have him. For anyone that doesn't have the url for detroitblog here it is: http://detroitblog.org/ Ave detroitblog! Credit to detroitblog Livedog2 |

The only problem is... that the building in the write up is not Art Deco. |

I've got a book on Miami Beach Art Deco architecture, and there is Mediterranean revival architecture mixed in with the Art Deco. The spiral columns, arches and Spanish tile roof are what differentiates it from true Deco. |
