Listening to the radio today they refered to C. Sheltons nickname as redpop or redtop. Lets start a PR campaign to call him the Faygo Kid. Besides faygo already sponsers the Tiger broadcasts. If you can hear them on the radio 1270am

I like the Faygo Cola, but there's nothing like Rock & Rye.

They probably couldn't call Shelton the "Faygo Kid" during telecasts, but that would be a great commercial endorsement...

Does a link exist to the old Faygo ad from the '60's that ran on TV? - the kid being asked by the guy what kind of pop he wanted, the kid would have him recite all the flavors - with Redpop last. The kid picks Redpop, and the guy in the white apron groans. Classic. I was thinking it ran on Johnny Ginger, but JG was sponsored by Double Cola.

Try this... (google search).. Looks like there is something on Soulful Detroit that may be what you are looking for.

Classic Faygo

I still prefer "Red Menace" for Shelton. Maybe because it also makes light of McCarthy-era hysteria.

I love faygo rock & rye. now, living in chicago, i have discovered filbert's root beer (local small business) which in my opinion is the absolute best root beer.

The problem with most root beers, including Faygo, is that they are all artificially flavored. Root beer used to be made from genuine sassafras root and natural barks and herbs, while most modern root beers aren't.

Sagebrush Shorty for Hires Root Beer.

Shelton needs to find that interview and have it burned...

Then his agent needs to cut a deal with Faygo to bring back the Great Gildersleeve commercials that end with oooooooo RedPop!... and out pops Shelton slammin a cold one with a big smile "Red Pop... thats a winner!"

i recently tried Faygo Peach for the first time. Rock 'n Rye is still my #1, closely followed by Red Pop. Peach, however, has quickly advanced into the top 3. it's like liquid cobbler.

"Remember When You Were A Kid?"

Written by Ed Labunaki
Originally sung for Faygo by Kenny Karen

Comic books and rubber bands
Climb into the tree top
Falling down and holding hands
Tricycles and Redpop
Pony rides and Sunday nights
Roller skates and snowball fights
Climbin' through the window
Remember when you were a kid?
Well, part of you still is
And that's why we make Faygo
Faygo remembers
Flying kites and funny shoes
Easter eggs with speckles
ABCs and counting by twos
Washing off the freckles
Kissing a hurt to make it stop
Startin' school in September
So many things you almost forgot
Tryin' to remember
Remember when you were a kid?
Well, part of you still is
And that's why we make Faygo
Faygo remembers

If I am correct there were truncated versions of this that were made at one point.

I distinctly remember this TV edit version:

Pony rides and Sunday nights
Roller skates and YO-YO's

Comic books and rubber bands
Climb into the tree top

Falling down and holding hands
Tricycles and Redpop

Remember when you were a kid?
Well, part of you still is
And that's why we make Faygo

Faygo Cream Soda is my fav. Followed closely by Redpop and Rock 'n Rye. It's funny how no other red soda even comes close after you've tried Faygo.

Rock and Rye is the shiz!!

I remember when I was a kid I went to visit a friend for the weekend. He had Arctic Sun at his house, and it was good, so when I got home I got some and I swear they changed the formula because it was awful.

So I can proudly say I enjoyed Arctic Sun for one weekend.

Love Rock and Rye and actually enjoy their Grape soda, however my absolute fave as a kid (which they no longer make) was Faygo Tango. It was later renamed Sunshine Soda and was considered a drink mixer. This was a grapefruit soda that blew Squirt away. Not as sweet and a lot more crisp/fizzy. Very tasty and refreshing in the summer with lots of ice. This is something I really miss. Fond memories of aunts and uncles visiting and cracking open the heavy green glass bottles; everyone in the family seemed to love this stuff.

LOL! I actually typed "red pop"(generic) first but didn't want to confuse it with "Redpop" (Faygo). I figured we're cultured enough around here to at least know what red soda was.

Nice catch!

speaking of RedPop, I know of a shot that tastes just like it
1 part vodka
1 part amaretto
1 part slow gin
chilled and then add some red bull
trust me, it's Faygo

The root beer at the WAB? So-so.
But Chris Shelton?
He says his hair's not red, but orange.

And while I can't take credit for this nickname, I think it's the best yet: "Orange Crush."

Go get 'em, Tigers.
